I don't know how long it will last , but I use self etching primer and then flat black spray paint. It looks good to me.

I just had mine re-anodized by these guys....

I'd love to tell you what it cost, but I have no idea I was working for someone that uses them a LOT and I threw it into a batch of stuff that was getting hard anoed it came out fantastic. I'd sandblasted it prior to taking it to them, and had it prepped and ready to go. I'm also not working for the place that I was so I cant even help you there.

I refinished my Henry but I had mine powder coated. That was three years ago and it still looks great.

I used HK black from "Duracoat" seems to work better than the standard spray paints I've used before.

For the holster gun, I added extra hardener which increases the lubricity .

i used Brownell gunkote on my mauser and 10/22 with good results.

i've also had good luck by using sandblasting, cleaning thoroughly with acetone or denatured alcohol, using rustoleum or hi-temp stove paint*.

There's a true two-part epoxy called Klasskote available on line or from some of the larger hobby shops that deal with R/C aircraft. I have used the older K&B Superpoxy which this stuff was derived from and it works extremely well. If I ever had to refinish my older 10/22 I would certainly use it.

I have refinished a hand full of 10/22 receivers with "Aluminum Black". Easy-peasy! If I ever get a scratch, I just re-blue/blacken the spot.

I have heard online of some fellows claiming to use refrigerator spray paint. Years ago, my brother sprayed a gold fridge white with the appliance spray paint. it lasted until they needed another fridge. I think it comes in all colors.

10/22's are so easy to work on

The aftermarket parts for customization is incredible.

OK to polish, just don't get carried away like I did...

Just to see if I could, I spray painted a muzzle brake with hi temp brake caliper paint and then heated for a long time. Although eventually it started to wear off, it stood up surprisingly well, considering what firing subjected it to and all the solvents it came in contact with. I mean, it’s designed for brakes so it SHOULD stand up to things like brake cleaner, and certainly CLP.

Were I ever to repaint my 10/22 receiver, it’s what I would use.

I have had Gunfighter Tactical refinish two Remington 572 receivers for me, using Cerokote. Cost was $50 per receiver, and they look like they came from the factory.

olde thread, but i know for a fact ruger DOES NOT use an epoxy spray paint.

ruger uses a matte black powdercoat on all their 10/22 receivers and their blackhawk/single six grip frames amongst other things. ive been to the factory personally and watched it done....

their "stainless finish" 10/22's are matte clear powdercoated over the raw aluminum.....
