    Ruger 10/22 TD Questions

Hi! So I want to purchase a 10/22 TD and I had two questions, First I purchased a 3-9x40 Prostaff BDC because of the rebate and want to buy Warne QD rings. I have heard that a Medium height ring should work? Would you get the normal rings? or QD? I heard that since this scope is a little onthe long side it may be difficult to cram into the case? If I were to get QD rings and took off the scope would it retain zero after remounting the scope/ putting the rifle together? or would i have to zero it every time? Thanks a bunch!

i use QD rings on my take down. just mark the rail where you zeroed it so you know where to put it back next time. with medium rings you are clear. since rugers rail is about a quarter inch higher than the top of the receiver you can possibly use low mount. though the chart says medium height rings are for scopes up to 42mm i'm using a medium height ring for my 50mm scope on my other 10/22 because of that extra height Ruger's picatinny rail gives and it still has about 1/8" clearance which is perfect because i think the goal is to get the scope as low to the barrel as possible.

my QD rings for my M&P15-22 hold zero quite well using my Nikon 4-12x40 scope. I have a 10/22 Takedown coming soon and from what I've gathered, you want to try and keep the scope end flush with the end of the stock when taken apart. I plan on moving my Nikon scope to my 10/22 Takedown using QD rings.

So first, I'd try to line up the end of the scope with the end of the stock when taken apart and see if you can still see a clear sight picture.
As soon as I get my 10/22 Takedown, I'll be posting pics with the Nikon scope attached and its relation to the bag in terms of fitment...

I have the same scope on my TD with Leupold QRW Low rings on a Power Custom 1-piece base which is a little taller than stock but much better quality. This setup works great so far.

Thanks! I guess Low would be the best choice then? and I was thinking about going to appleseed; One of the requirements seem to be a sling? how hard would it be to install swivel studs onto the rifle? and which type would I need? Thanks again!

            Scope on a TD

If the scope is longer that 11-1/2" (max) it won't fit in the provided bag.
Not a show stopper, but an issue that needs to be addressed. I ended up with a
tac scope that is ~8" long.
You will enjoy this gun. Fun to shoot and easy to transport.

you can use this or this along with one of those <--.

i really like these swivels, they are extremely heavy duty though you don't need heavy duty for a 10/22.

My scope for mine is a Redfield Revolution 2-7 and it fits in the bag nicely when mounted, albeit I had to modify the mount Ruger sends you to mount the scope a little farther back. I have also had good luck with a Weaver 4 power scope and my friend has a nice Leupold that is compact enough to still fit in the bag. None of the scopes that are 12" and longer will work if you still want it to fit in the bag mounted to the receiver.

I had a 3-9x40 (Nikon Rimfire) that I mounted on a TD. My LGS had only Weaver GrandSlam QD rings in Medium. It just barely cleared the rear sight. Only issue is taking it down as you can't take it down w/o first removing the scope. I didn't care for the disconnect of the rings as it was not very clean as I had to jiggle the part that holds the rings to weaver base. Might look at high rings or even the Leupold QWR (Medium) if it's easier to disconnect.

I just bought a takedown 10/22 today and I have a related question. Is it possible to leave the scope rail attached to the receiver and use the irons? I would like to put on a scope and QD rings, but I thought it would be nifty if I could still have the option of using the irons if it struck my fancy.

Nevermind! Found it. There are some mounts with great reviews that allow you to use the irons and then if you'd like, attach the scope with some QD rings and be good to go. And because Ruger was so thoughtful, all will fit in the bag.

Not too bad at all! I did mine on my wood 10/22, and will do the TD soon too. I'm fairly sure it would be the same procedure, but maybe get the studs for non-wood. Here's a video that might help, though there are others out there too.

on swivel studs, some have used one for the barrel band on the forend and a type of strap that goes around the stock at the rear. There is another thread on this in this forum.

                              Most definitely

I'm using Leupold QRW rings just for this purpose; note that
your sight picture won't be as clear as a 10/22 without the
factory rail in place but you can definitely use the factory sights
with the rail installed and shoot quite well (at least I can)

I think Ruger had this in mind when they designed the rail...IMHO
