marlin 795 mag mod?

i would like to mod my marlin 795 mags with some sort of a window to see how much ammo is left any ideas on how to do this?

Take a dremel to it..
Or use a drill to make witness holes?

Personally I think its a bit of a bad idea as with a a magazine this small it may make it weak.

Anyways a large portion of the magazine when inserted is inside the magazine well and not visible. This will make it impossible to tell how many rounds you have under a certain point..

Best just to count your shots imo.

Got my rifle and magazines out.
Just as I thought the magazine already sort of has a window. The groove that the magazine has cut in the side that corresponding to the nub in the magazine well acts as one. But it only works when the magazine is removed from the rifle because as I mentioned a large amount of the magazine when inserted is inside the rifle. While the magazine is out you can count 6 rounds.

Also there are already 3 witness holes. Bottom one doesn't seem to do anything, I only see spring. 2nd to bottom when fully loaded you can see the 10th round and follower. Top one is so close to the top you could tell there is only 2 or 3 rounds left.

So really the preexisting witness holes are little to no help.

You could extend the grove on the side of the magazine to show you more rounds but it would do you little good because under 6 rounds they will all be inside the rifle and not visible but then again you run the risk of weakening the mag

I agree with Chaos. Unfortunately besides the fact that you may make the mags unusable, you aren't really going to be able to see anything anyways. There is not very much mag that actually sticks out. All you'd probably see is the spring...

If you can see if you have any rounds, so can someone else. There are reasons when you wouldn't want anyone to know if you have any in the magazine. I usually count my shots.

Because you're going to be in a "mexican stand-off" with a .22lr rifle at a distance so close that someone could see rounds through a magazine window? I guess those .22lr colt, s&w, gsg-5, smoke BDM, clear butler creek, etc. magazines just aren't tacticool enough.

I agree with Chaos47 also. There simply isn't enough material in the magazine body to cut a window without weakening it, not to mention there's so much of the magazine in the rifle that isn't visible you wouldn't have much to see anyway.

Lol no no shoot outs with it but just would be nice but I see what your all saying about not enough material. Thanks anyways
