Well I decided to make my own ammo cases out of pine, and intend to stain them. Though I'm not sure on capacity, I've started out with ideas of 240, brought it down to 150 and now 50 rounds..Ill post some cad drawings of my design ideas anyone attempt something like this?

Never seen one out of wood but I have seen them made out of aluminium.
Hello, I have electronicly spoke to the guy who makes these blocks. I have interest in one of them but he said he has to set up his jig and work station and indicated that if I can get a few more orders he would make them for us. No definate cost yet but most likely in the $15 area. I'm...

the aluminum ones look really sweet! i plan on putting 1" brackets so the wooden case is closeable to transport them easier.Last edited by Triple A's; 08-28-2012, 11:33 PM.Comment

My ammo already comes in a case
Most ammo comes in a box, why build a little 50-rd box?

To be honest just to try it, no real rhyme or reason I just enjoy this kind of thing
Ive made designs for 50,150,and 240 round boxes using a similar model. I do buy a bit of bulk rounds that are just piled in a box, but you have a valid point.Last edited by Triple A's; 08-28-2012, 11:45 PM.Comment

If I were building one, I would make it different. I would engineer a way that you could slide out ten rounds at a time and not have to either dump them out or take them out one by one. If you are going through the trouble of building, you may as well create something different. I am thinking of a channel that the rounds slide on and as you open the door you can control one row at a time. Let them slide out in your hand or on the bench, then load them mags!Comment

I like your idea and have a suggestion. Make it for at least 100 rounds and divide it into four 25 round lots to hold different brands of ammo. Seems like it is only useful for range use so when testing ammo for your firearm you could have 4 lots of different types of ammo for testing and not get confused on which ammo you were using. You have the best reason for building it, "because I want to". Good luck, keep us posted.Comment

To everyone saying its a waste of time I disagree. Generally the ones I have seen that ammo come in the rounds are almost fully enclosed. The point of an ammo block is that there is more exposed area of the round exposed and easier to pick up. I see more of a benefit to it if using a single shot bolt action. But still it sounds like something nice to have.Comment

Very good point. When I am concerned about "best accuracy" I hand load single rounds into the chamber of my bolt rifles. This prevents any lead shaving or dings that the bullet might get when cycled out of a magazine. To everyone saying its a waste of time I disagree. I like the idea, sounds more complex but i think that's quite doable with a few strips of metal drilled small enough to catch the rim!If I were building one, I would make it different. and seeing as i have have a long way to try ammo i do like the idea A LOT, and pretty simple to do from the base design. I think ill do it in a 150 style cap and have them spaced out and glue in a small clear plastic rim to insert paper names for the ammo brands name. I just picked up 2 7.5"x48" pine planks to start this weekend.Comment
