Options for an AK Platform in .22 rimfire?

We're looking for an AK in .22 rimfire so that we can do more training without doing so much damage to our finances. I believe that ATI makes something like this but I have not heard much about them and I don't know what else may be available.

I would love to hear from you guys as to what is available and what the quality is like. I would like to get something that has a good reputation for solid build quality so that it will last for many years.

Did a search online and found a number of options but would still like to hear input from CG folks about what has and hasn't worked well for them.

I believe the Romanian M-10's are the best AK trainers since they were made specifically for that purpose. The ATI AKs are really your tacticool rifles. The last time I searched a M-10 was going for about $400-$500 on gunbroker sold by centerfire systems. They do not have them anymore unfortunately. Armscor has a clone for under $200 but it's kinda ugly.

If you can find a Romanian M-10 22 or even a WASR-22 then go for it.

If you're looking form something just close, and relatively cheap, I use a 10/22 in butler creek pistol-gripped stock that works pretty good: charging handle on the same side, mag-changes are similear (get 10-rd butler creek ones, not the ruger rotary ones). Sight picture is similar enough with the 10/22 buckhorn sites.

The only big difference is the safety.

The M-10 is the only true AK trainer that is currently being sold new. You can also buy a Romanian WASR22 on the used market which is essentially the same as the M-10. Uses the same internals. The ATI AK's, Mitchell and Armscor AK's only resemble Ak's and use not a single real AK part, whereas the M-10 and WASR22 are built on a WASR2 receiver and use 90% true AK parts. Here is my WASR22 built with Bulgy 74 components for flare.

offrdmania, nicely done and looks pretty snazzy. It is a shame that Saiga doesn't have a .22lr rifle 'cause that's what I what I have, not converted, and that's the platform that I would like to work with. Thanks for all the input, I'm all ears for any more ideas, options, or leads.
