    muzzle brake/compensator on 22?

hey guys i got a mossberg plinkster that i have been thinking of putting a muzzle brake or compensater on. what is going on is it has a bit of muzzle rise when i fire it, even if i go down to 36gr bullets.

i am thinking that it has muzzle rise for 2 reasons: because this thing is very very light, and i think the way the stock is orientated the butt is lower than the barrel. last time at the bench with it i tried forcefully pulling down towards the bench with my forward hand but i still could not keep it from jumping. my centerfires have more recoil (obviously) but not as much muzzle rise as this thing

i was thinking of trying out one that is made for a 10/22 as there is no aftermarket support for a mossberg plinkster.

has anyone mounted one on a 22 and did it make any noticeable difference whatsoever?

i successfully polished the firing group on this thing and accuracy improved quite a bit. was a major PITA to reassemble and the entire time i had the feeling that i was truly "polishing a turd"

I doubt it will make much of a difference to run one to be honest. But:

If you know a shop that sells the slip on ones and they would let you bring in your rifle and see how it fits thats an option. But as you know its designed for the barrel contour of the Ruger.

The best option would to be to have your barrel threaded and get a compensator that screws on. This is a much better mounting system.

a break will aid...how perceptible it will be is at best, debatable...the stock on a 10/22 is NOT designed as a "recoil absorbing" stock s it's "only" a 22 rimfire.

an AR style stock is more "Recoil absorbing" due to the design of the stock. it's straight back and has (in the case of centerfire) a spring and buffer to absorb recoil.

YHM makes one....no idea how effective it'll be but it is definitely more secure than one you would pin on. http://yhm.net/index.php?main_page=p...3a1fbf0ba274e9
