NEED a .22LR semi rifle. Torn between...

    a Ruger 10/22 Tactical, an GSG 522 and a M&P AR15-22.

Never shot any of them, not can I find one to rent.

It doesn't help that PSA has the GSG 522 for sale. Not sure if they will ship to a CA FLL.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks,

Let me suggest a Marlin 795... before Chaos47 beats me to it. The M&P 15-22 is a fun rifle to shoot. It does feel a bit plastic though compared to a 5.56.

Will do, thanks. I got to hold the 3 I mentioned. I agree, the M&P does feel plasticky. I did like that it functions like an AR pattern rifle, so it wouldn't be much of a transition since I already have a 5.56.

Get a CMMG .22lr upper, throw some cheap Magpul buis on there and just swap the uppers out with your lower. I do that and it works great, until I finally get around to getting the .22lr it's own lower so I can ditch the BB for the .22

While normally I would say the 795, it doesn't really do the tactical thing yet unless you do a airsoft body Its a great rifle and is at a way better price point then most tacticals.

I have heard good things about the GSG

          I've shot a M&P and I didn't really think it was fun...

I would say if you are going to spend that much cash get a drop in bolt or a dedicated upper. I don't like how most tactical 22lrs internal have very little in common with the gun they are cloning. If you have a drop in bolt or upper you have a real AR that you can change between centerfire and rimfire.

C1 - where are you located? I have an M&P 15-22 you can test out if your in the Sacramento (or more northern) area.... or want to come up this way.

I love my 15-22 by the way..... yes it's plastic, oh well - so are a lot of reliable guns. It has been super reliable and it's accurate enough - and it is great for training since you already have the real deal.

                  i know i know.

i accidently bent the mag release on the 795 so the magazine doesnt sit properly. i can easily pull it out by hand without hitting the mag release.

any suggestions? send me a pm

It sort of depends on what you want it for. The M&P15-22 is a great little training stand-in for an AR15 and is a decently accurate plinker and that's why I own one. The downside of the design is that it puts the iron sights too high for a 22. If you're looking for more tacticool than practical this is a nice choice. A 10/22 tactical is a fine and very practical plinker and rabbit hunter with the potential to be more should the mod bug ever bite. I own a bunch of modded 10/22s. It all boils down to your choices.

SoCal, thanks for the offer. The plastic feel is not that big of a deal. I liked how light it felt.

Have you looked at the Sig 522? Love mine. Super reliable and accurate out of the box.

My gsg5 worked fine, but I wasn't wild about it. So I sold it. I have a 10/22 and 15/22, both are great rifles and a lot of fun at the range.

10-22 all the way. The most versatile and universal 22 ever.

Thanks all for the replies. After reading up on them most of the day, I came to the conclusion that this particular purchase was gonna be about tacticool. I always wanted an MP5, since I can't have a "real" one, I'm gonna go with the non evil clone. GSG522SD is on order. Got a good deal from Palmetto State.

I'll try to write a quick review once I get it and become acquainted with it.
