WTB used marlin model 60 good idea?

Hey guys I'm looking to buy a used marlin model 60, I'm buying it from my brother in law who got it new when he was 14ish(he's 47now) only fired it about a half dozen times. He's not a regular shooter and is thinking of parting with it.

My question is, will this be a good buy if say I pay around $100 or less?

A gun for life. Check the barrel of course for rust. But I'll try to find some threads with just about the same question.

I have 3 rifles, 1 is a Marlin 60, the other is a Glenfield (Marlin) that is 20 years old and the other is a Saiga. point being, they are really great firearms.

They wear out quickly. Used to be able to get a rebuild kit. But not anymore. Still, $100 is pretty good if it still shoots without jamming.

I would say it would be a great buy.

Not sure why you think they wear out quickly, I have a few from the early 70's and they are hardly worn out. I've had to replace a few minor parts here and there, but parts are easy to come by.

I asked the same thing as I ultimately ended up buying a used 17-shot Marlin 60 for $90. The 18 shot Marlin 60's had feeding problems I guess. I'll find my thread real quick. The info is in there.

Thats a very good idea. I have 3 of them, one with the squirrel stock and a regular checkered stock and a newer Marlin from 2000. Very fun and surprising accurate.

Marlin 60's are good little accurate shooters. The triggers aren't something to write home about IMO. But still I like them with the tube fed rather than the 795 magazine fed. $100 is a steal in my mind if it is like you say. I would buy it in a heartbeat and start plinking today! (Especially if it was from my family).

I have one from 1986 with 1000s of rounds down the barrel, ain't wore out yet. Loads, shoots and ejects any ammo. Easy to take down and clean. If you owned one it must have been mistreated, not cleaned and abused to have it wear out quickly. On second thought, do you or have you owned one?

I don't think the thread a year ago had plot twists like this. lol. Redo.
