Modifying Ruger BX-25 Mags for the 10/22 rifle

Standard 10 round Ruger mags can be difficult to remove from 10/22 and 77/22 rifles. Due to a physical disability, I would like to legally use the new BX-25 mags because they are much easier to insert and remove from the Ruger 10/22 rifle. They also look cool. Thirty and twenty round AR mags are routinely blocked to hold 10 rounds for use with AR-15 type rifle here in California but, wondering if anyone has similarly modified Ruger BX-25 mags. Please, no mall ninja comments.

i have never tried as i have no need to , but sure you could just jb weld a tab under the follower @10 rds or fill the whole lower end of the mag with epoxy if you wanted as the run flat wound coil springs ...

I have about half a dozen of these, and an equal number of BX-1s(standard 10 round ruger factory mags). Never had a feeding problem with either of them.

My 10/22 had some issues with every mag other than the factories.

I took steel wool to the inside of the receiver and bolt, and it has no more problems.

Prefer using Ruger factory OEM mags when using the 10/22 rifle. Believe that doing so will eliminate any potential feeding problems. Afterall, the mags were designed by the same folks who built the rifle. With that in mind, I want to be able to use the BX-25 mag body yet, have it modified to take only 10 rounds. Someone must have already done this and I'm hoping to learn how it was accomplished.

The Ruger BX mags as well as the Butler steel lip magazines run great. I avoid the polymer lipped aftermarket mags because the lips are thin and WILL break over time.

No problem for me with the Butler Creek mags. I just shot a few hundred rounds last night, rotating Butler Creek mags and factory Ruger mags. Absolutely no feed problems, using 40gr Federal ammo.

As mentioned, get the steel lips and they'll last.

Butler Creek "Stel Lip" magazines work very well. I have several and the only malfunctions can be attributed to the ammo

nope. but i ended up trading my butler creek for factory mags and just squaring the bottom of the magazine and putting some epoxy on the together so i ahve 2 mags together and its easy to grab.

Was able to modify a couple BX-25 mags this morning. Actually pretty easy to do. What I did was open up the magazine, remove the spring, and load 10 rounds into the feed tray. Then slid the follower up to make contact with the last of the 10 rounds. Marked the position of the followers bottom, drilled a hole into the left side of mag body, installed a 1/4" x 3/8" aluminum pop rivet, and reassembled mag. Very easy, very fast, very clean, and very functional. Yeah I know some will see this as a solution to a non-existent problem but for those with arthritic hands or other disabilities, the BX-25 mag body is much easier to use than the standard 10 round rotary mags.
