    Looking for a solid M4 .22 (around $300)

My brothers birthday is around the corner and he loves the M4, but that is a little out of my price range. I have been looking online but I am only seeing similar .22 rifles around the $500 range. Anyone have any suggestions on a similar looking rifle of good quality I could get for around $300? We both live in CA, thanks for any feedback.

That thing is as much of an M4 as is a Henry H001, but it does kinda look the same.

I would suggest you look around for a used S&W M&P-22 or the like. Colt sells their 22 trainer, but it's like $499

He clearly said something that looks like it for around $300. The Mossberg fits the bill.

Just saw a Colt in the for sale section for $345. It is in San Jose. Don't know where you are located.

The tactical .22lr in the M4 pattern is a difficult one for under $300. The current best production M4 pattern .22lr on the market is the M&P-22 in terms of reliability and function. The Ultramax .22lr (Colt) is a close second, but does not really function like a true AR type rifle. The Mossberg tactical .22lr is basically like a Marlin 795 or Ruger 10-22 with M4 clothing and without the reliability. My recommendation would be to find a used M&P-22 or give him a gift card worth what you are willing to spend and then having him make up the difference and get the M&P-22. Either that or get a Marlin 60/795 or the 10-22 and he can have a great rifle for under $300 instead of a poor quality Mossberg that looks like a M4.

I wouldn't recommend the Mossberg look alike. If you have to have the AR-15 look than save some money for the M&P 15-22 which is probably the cheapest M4 look alike worth having. It's actually pretty great. Many other great 22 rifles under $300 but they won't look like an M4

The major drawback for most of many of these is that the magazines are hard to find, and could be expensive. I personally chose a Ruger 10/22, and you can drop any evil feature on them, AND you can get magazines at Walmart, or ANYWHERE. Just thought I'd mention why I didn't go with one of the harder to find mag-accepting rifles, for some this won't be an issue, but it was for me...

One of my lowers is to be a 22lr (and one in 9mm Luger), but this is AFTER my lady gets her 5.56 NATO AR, so daddy has to wait to build the other lowers.
