    .22 LR bolt action?

Hi I am new to this website so bear with with me. I wanted your opinion to which 22 lr bolt action rifle under $600 should I get. Like I said I am pretty new to the website as well as firearms so dont feel bad if you need to educate me. As of now I am looking at the Savage Mark II F.

CZ 452 (if you can find a good used one) or the newer 455 series

      Hey Cool, WELCOME!

List your city and someone will step up to the plate and help you out in person.
If you live in Bakersfield I'd help you.

You are going to get a boat load of opinions here (or any other forum) and will soon be overwhelmed with information.

What is your plan for the .22's use? Plinking fun, precision target, hunting etc.
I happen to have a 22 for sale well under your budget. Not a bolt action but a good gun. PM me if you like.

      God bless, Fred

I have a CZ 452 and I'm very pleased with its quality, fit, and accuracy. It's also a fair deal in terms of price.

Hey Fred, I am in Los Angeles but more specifically the San Fernando Valley.

I want the rifle for shooting at the range. Since I am new to firearms I want a small .22 before I step up to something bigger. My goal is to become skilled at target shooting. Thanks for the help!

You cannot go wrong with savage. If i was you, I would go for the FV in stainless, only because after owning my FV for a while, I wish I had gone with stainless...

Savage is great all around, you cant go wrong.

If you can find one, a Romanian 1969 .22 trainer is inexpensive and extremely accurate.

Its all about the CZ Rifles in your price range. The 452's are legendary and have been discontinued, but are still on the market.

To replace the the 452 CZ came out with the 455 and there a a few big differences. The 452 barrel is threaded in to the action while the 455 uses set screws. The 455 will allow barrel changes like 17hmr2 etc.

One other note. The American named rifles have the tapered barrel and weigh about 1 pound less the the Varmint version.

Oh and to confuse you even more there is a CZ453. Its the same as the 452 but has a set trigger.

If it were me I'd buy the 452. With that said, Lilja is now making barrels for the 455. That says something.

                      Clear as mud I know

They are discontinued but if you can find a Marlin 981t it is a great tube fed bolt action rifle with decent adjustable iron sights. Best it shoots .22LR, .22 short, .22long, .22CB's.

I paid $150 at Turners a few years ago.

There are 2 available on gunbroker.com for $200 and less.

I have the left handed CZ 452 and am very happy with it, accurate and one of the best looking 22 lr bolt guns made. The Ruger 77/22 is also a great looking rifle.

does it have to be "new" ?

you can get some fine shooting old bolt actions for much less then your price range, unless you plan on compitition shooting most any bolt gun will out shoot you as a new shooter anyways .... just my 2 pennies ...
