p223 3x9x40 on a 10/22 Overkill?

Hi,
Complete newb here. Recently bought a ruger 10/22 carbine ( Big 5 special).
Wife bought me a nikon p223 3x9x40 for my B day after showing her one and mentioning what a great scope it is. Didn't think she would go out and buy me one.)

Is this scope overkill for the ruger? Is this question overkill?

Nice scope...use it!

Overklll? No! I have a 4-16x Mueller APV and many use 24~36x glass. Thank the wife and enjoy shooting!

Defintely not! Just check out SPot On to dialin the scope to your 22 LR ammo.
You'll be very happy I think!
