I have no idea if it is legal for purchase in CA but if it is that product is a barreled receiver (receiver being the operative word) and so it must go thru an FFL and be DROS'ed as a firearm.

The receiver is the serial numbered part and you already have that in your grubby little hands. You can send it to Volquartsen or Clark or any other smith and have your barrel replaced.

      It's just a matter of $$$$$$.

Isn't the barrel on the 22/45 an integral part of the receiver (i.e., one-piece)? I believe so. So, what Izzy said if you planned on doing it.

I've got a Mark II and I'm pretty sure it's all one piece. Not sure about the Mark III's.

it that so, i thought like a glock or any other pistol the lower receiver is the only part of a firearm that need to be DROS, hence you can replace any part even the barrel. What makes the 22LR different from the other higher caliber pistol, that the barrel receiver also need to be DROS?

The upper barreled receiver on the MKii/iii and 22/45 Ruger is considered the serial numbered firearm. Switching barrels in this case means getting a new serial numbered receiver which requires a FFL and DROS. The Browning Buckmarks have it better in this regard.

The upper is the serialized part on the 22/45, not the lower.

The barrel is threaded into the reciever but, it is a pita to switch unless you have the right equipment and know what you're doing.

Because the item that the OP linked to includes the receiver, its not just the barrel. If it were just the barrel then no DROS is required. Please re-read his original post if its unclear what he was asking.

for adding a compensator or suppressor and comes standard with a thread protector.
Ready for suppressor... where? In Cali...?

                          Follow along closely.

                          1. The receiver is the serial numbered part.

                          2. The barrel is screwed into the receiver, it is not part of the receiver. See CSAs reply above.

                          3. The barrel can be removed by professionals and the occasional gifted amateur. Some folks have had good results with slab sided barrels, leather lined vises, torches and dry ice to expand and contract parts as needed.

                          4. A threaded barrel on a semi-automatic pistol is almost the definition of a bad idea in California. You would have to BB or find some other way to convince the good(bad)guys that you are one of the good(good) guys.

                          5. Clark will cheerfully turn your $300 Ruger 22 into a very very accurate $800 Ruger 22.

                          6. The receiver is still the serial numbered part and the barrel is not part of it.
