    Colt 4-22 FTE issues

OK, I wasn't sure if this should go here or in "Gunsmithing".

A buddy of mine has a Colt Colteer 4-22 from who knows when. He brought it to me about a month ago to take apart and clean for the first time in... ages. He had told me of a recurring problem concerning spent shell ejection, so we both hoped a good cleaning would help. Well, I apparently didn't do a good enough job cleaning and lubricating because he said it's started failing to eject again. It worked well for a little while!

So we are both out of answers. When it was apart, the ejector and everything looked to be working well... and he's trying to put off going to the REAL gunsmith. Can anybody think of something as to why it's being so troublesome? He runs bulk CCI Blazer ammo out of it. Could it really be that I SUCK at cleaning firearms and it's time to visit the pros?!

    Thanks for any input!

CCI blazer is really dirty ammo i have an old 22 semi auto thats like 40 years old and after about 100 rounds i have the same problem, try using CCI mini mags or other ammo it seemed to help a little bit
"Be not that far from me, for trouble is near; haste Thee to help me. Blessed be the Lord my strength, which teacheth my hands to war, and my fingers to fight. My goodness, and my fortress; my high tower, and my deliverer; my shield, and he in whom I trust; who subdueth my people under me. O my God, I trust in thee: let me not be ashamed, let not mine enemies triumph over me."

Yeah, I have heard that it's one of the dirtier choices. I guess I'll clean it good and tell him to try something cleaner. Maybe that IS the answer. Thanks for the advice!

CCI bulk is great ammo for some rifles not all. I have a new CMMG 22lr upper that hates the CCI bulk and will fail to feed or fail to eject 3 or 4 times per mag. I switched the ammo to the Winchester M-22 stuff and the problem was solved. Check the round, does it have a notch in it where it may have made contact somewhere in the cycle process?
