    SP101 mainspring question

Does anyone know what the current production sp101 .22 mainspring is rated?
A good rifle build isn't cheap, but a bad one can be expensive!

Try Wolff Gun Springs. They show their replacement and mfr ratings.

    Hammer Springs

Hammer springs for the SP-101 series are the same as for the Super Redhawk and the GP-100 series revolvers.

    •Reduced Power...: 9, 10, 11 and 12 Lb.
    •Factory Standard.: 14 Lb.
    •Extra Power.........: None Available

The thing with firearms is that they are not like any other consumer product, simple ownership of one carries a lot of responsibility.

Some idiots are too busy knowing it all to ever learn anything

      Yes, it's rated 14 lbs.
I bought the Wolff spring pack from MidwayUSA.
Have tried the 12lb and the 10lb.
I'm currently using the 12lb hammer spring along with the 8lb trigger return spring.
The 10lb started giving too many failures to fire with Federal bulk pack.
      Otherwise it works great.

Thanks for the input, I'll be doing the Wolf spring change. Pulling back the hammer for single action shooting can feel pretty difficult after awhile.

Thanks for the info. I let three beginning women use my SP 101 .22 last weekend and all three had a great deal of difficulty trying to pull the hammer back to fire SA. One had to use two thumbs. None had any issues with my much larger GP 100. Is the mainspring the main issue here, or is it a mechanical design issue?

Do you know if it will lighten up with use? This is the third time to the range for my SP 101 and it has about 300 rounds through it. I personally don't have issues with the hammer, but the SA trigger pull is much heavier than I would prefer. Oddly DA isn't that bad...

The SP has a smaller hammer with less leverage from the spur than the GP100.
