This is a classic set up.
Ring height on a rifle with a barrel diameter the same or smaller than the receiver and with your scope size (40mm) you will want a min of .287" ring height as measured from the ring bottom to the base top. The base will provide a little more height so you can measure it as well. Deduct the base height from .287". This will place the scope low on the rifle. Maybe too low.
I suggest making some mounts from modeling clay. You want to have a good check weld and comfortable scope height for your eye position. As well as getting the eye relief correct when you do mount the scope. Then measure the scope tube bottom to receiver top. This minus the base height is your ring height. You can only get close. Look at EGW one piece bases before you spend money on rings.

I'm assuming it's a sporter barrel and not a heavy varmint type whichactually may not make any difference. I have a 4x12x40 mounted on my Savage .22 Magnum. It sits about 1/4 inch above the barrel. You may need this height to clear the rear sight. The rings are: UTG medium see thru design from Amazon. $9.60. The stock bases supplied with rifle do not move at all.Comment
