Finally mastered the dreaded Ruger Mk III

I guess I've done it so many times now fiddling around with them I field stripped my 22/45 and a Mk III stainless almost as fast as a Glock earlier before realizing my accomplishment. Then casually fully detail stripped the 22/45 down to every part to clean out some red gunk that I thought was oxidation in the magazine release.

I remember when field stripping these pistols were Ruger's cruel joke on mortals and now they seem so simple to me.

I think the key is really just looking inside and poking at every moving part and learning what does what and suddenly the pistol loses its evilness.

To all those new MkIII owners out there: don't give up!

These guns get a bad rep because people *think they're impossible to disassemble then reassemble. Field stripping should take about a minute. And detail stripping should take less than 7-8.

it's even easier when you install a Volquartsen MkII hammer bushing.

I had a hell of a time my first time around stripping my Mark III but after that it's easy. I love to shoot it and the cost of ammo makes it worth it

Disassembly is pretty easy. It was assembly that I found difficult. Finally found a video called Moe's Video that was the difference between day and night. Easy peasy ever since and allows cleaning from the breach.

1st disassembly took 4 hours, and enough swearing that I had to sleep on the couch. 2nd time took an hour, 3rd time took 3 minutes. I now officially love this gun!!!

I don't understand the logic in having to disassemble a MKIII..................not necessary.

This is the reason I chickened out and bought an SR22 pistol for my daughter. Have not regretted it although the MKIII is obviously more accurate. But the SR22 is a great plinker.

To get rid of the mag disconnect, LCI, and install your Volq goodies

Back spring? Do you mean the latch? If it's the latch that was tough at first, but a dowel and a nice rubber hammer. :-)
