    S& W 22a mag disconnect - options?

Thinking of getting a 22 due to cheap ammo. Of course everyone raves about the MKIII, & Buckmark. For me, the the LCI it is a bit of a turn off for me (more of the principal of it vs. practicality). Buckmark w/ the disassembling screws procedure, eh, not exciting. Neos, well, off list..... which leaves me w/ the SW22a. (Sig & Walther, I wanted more of a target pistol look besides the feeding issues w/ the sig).

Searching Youtube I see mods possible on say the MKIII, for the LCI & mag release.

My question is If & When I ever move to a free state where the mag disconnect isn't required - could I disable the mag disconnect at that point on the S&W 22a?

    Thanks in advance!

You're not required to keep the mag disconnect, and you'll get a sweeter trigger if you dump it.

The gun maker is required to use the disconnect to sell the rifle in the PRK...once you buy the gun you can do as you please.

understood, just like the "normal" capacity mags that were obtained before the ban....... Still would like to hear how to do it - pending purchase (can re-dros next week).

Born in Midland grew up FAR north Dallas - think Richardson & Plano. Family still there.

OK, here's my $0.02 worth. I own a Smith and Wesson 22A-1. There is a rod inside the mag well that allows the hammer to be set when a mag is inserted. The mag pushes the rod up. I'm no expert or gunsmith but seems to me if that rod were removed then the hammer could not be set. I think you should check around before removing the mag disconnect as the pistol may not operate properly (fire).

You can legally remove the LCI and Mag disconnect here in CA.

It's pretty easy to take the LCI and disconnect in a MK3 (use a strong magnet to remove the pin that holds in the LCI)

I don't know anything about the SW22A or modding it sorry.

The mag disconnect is not a big deal on the 22A. When the mag is in place the disconnect rod allows the trigger parts to be in the same position and relationship as if the mag disconnect rod was not there, so there is not a big difference parts in parts out. I think if you look at it you would see how to defeat it. It is an inexpensive plinker and the trigger is what it is. They are not bad out of the box. Just don't see a reason to remove it.

Yeah, no real reason to remove it - especially so for a target shooter, not a home defense weapon. Still though, for *me* at least, it's me being told by the state that for new guns that they must have that "feature", (as well as the LCI,) almost out of principal I want to avoid that (if possible)....if that makes any sense.

                Thanks for the responses guys!

Not really. The magazine disconnect came along a long time before the California requirement. Mag disconnects did not appear because of the California requirement. Been around a long time.

While many don't think a mag saftey is needed it has proven to save lives and this one is in no way a drag on the trigger.

The S&W 22A only appears to be a target pistol it really is a plinker. I think if you will try the trigger you will find it is fine.
