My 1st .22 was the 581 back in 1980, with a scope and bench 100 yards no problem. Much small game taken with it. About a year ago came across a 2nd one, bought it, cleaned it inside and out, put in the safe for future try out. Out of all the .22's I have, the 581 is always on the ready as my "go to" gun for varmit problems or whatever. To me a most accurate tack driver.
Lead will be worth more than silver and gold when they are giving it away free !

        adamjones1873,

I have one in excellent shape I bought off the used gun rack about 15 years ago when I was going 22 rifle crazy!!! All I needed was a magazine for it. The bolt action is a little stif for me but it's accuracy makes up for it!

            adamjones1873,

Sorry dude.....it's mine for keeps in case all of my AR's are condemed from the so called BB issue. I can always go back to shooting 22 rimfires again.

Can I ask you why must you have the Remington 581????? There's loads of 22 rifles out there on the market that offers a fantastic challenge for some good bench rest/filed usage. Consider Remingtons new bolt action that I can't remember the model number. I do remember for a 22 rifle it's terribly expensive and personally I would never buy one.

How about Marlin???? Marlin rifles or Savage has excellent rifles that offers much shooting fun. They are old designs but they last forever and are made using stainless steel now a days. I'm checking out BIG 5 and if I see one especially the Savage I wouldn't mind getting one in SS or even the blued one is nice.
