Sig P220 22LR Conversion??

Hey....

I was thinking I should have asked here sooner but I ordered one of these:

Anyone have experience or own/shot one? I have an abundance of Sigs so I thought I would use one as a 22 on occasions now so I can shoot more for less $$$.

Just want to hear your feedback about the conversion....thanks!

I've fired my buddy's Sig .22 conversion on his P228. It's fun to shoot. His doesn't like all the cheap Walmart fodder, but .22s can be like that, right? My only issue with the conversion is that it doesn't feature a last shot hold open. I think a lot of conversions lack that feature as well. No big deal. At the ranges in my area only slow fire is allowed, but if you have a place to shoot that allows double taps and/or rapid fire watch out. We shoot on private property and those cheap 550-round boxes disappear quickly. Have fun.

I have one for a p220, and it is a real hoot to shoot. I must be lucky because mine will run the walmart bulk winchester with no issues (36gr hp).

But for a better experience and better accuracy these rimfire kits seem to do better with a 40gr rn bullet and a muzz vel between 1450 and 1480 fps. Not all of mine will feed the bulk hp stuff, but they all work well with the 40 gr rn.

For economics, and the cost differences of commercial ammo, (rimfire vs centefier) they will pay for themselves in savings right around 900 rounds of rimfire run through it.

I also have one for my P220 Combat, after 50-100 round of break in, all work well. Never had any problems with the Walmart bulk.

I have one for my p226 eats everything. It is very fun to shoot cheap as well. I did get an aftermarket follower so the slide locks back after the last round is fired. https://www.collectors-society-slabs...-Parts-*ORDER/

I also went with Sigpower followers as well as updated the mag spring with a more heavy duty one. I actually used a mag springs from a Glock Advantage Arms 22lr kit which are pretty robust and way cheaper to buy from the AA site. I run mostly CCI Blazers with rarely an issue along with RGB’s with minor issue but attribute that to Remington’s shoddy quality. Overall, excellent experience…

Hey buddy,

I've got a 226 in 9mm, and am debating getting this .22LR kit. However, I'm also considering getting a dedicated 22 handgun, like the Ruger Mk III, Buckmark, etc.

Not sure which way to go... I was wondering if you go to a local range, and I can meet you there and take a look at yours.... Plz let me know...

Sig .22 kit is worth it

I have the P220 .22 kit on a SS P220...(cool reverse two-tone)

Pros:

-Good Quality manufacture
-Accurate barrel (on a *really* good day I can do 2" or less)
-Easy to clean (compared to any dedicated .22lr system)
-Great practice on actual trigger and grip
-Fun and economical (mine likes Federal bulk pack)
-Swap out is simple and quick

Cons:

-Does not lock slide back on empty magazine
-Plastic magazine (and expensive too)
-Plastic guide rod
-Weak follower spring on factory magazine


That said, I love my kit, have over 25K rounds through easy maybe more...

To remedy the cons, I went to SigPower, and ordered a new follower and a new follower spring.
The new follower made of aluminum not plastic will fix the lock open problem (it extends higher than the stock one and blocks the slide from closing), and the more powerful spring will fix any feeding issues (FTF).
I also used a plastic snap cap last round in the mag before I got the Sigpower upgrade so if I did drop the hammer it hits the snap cap.

A good buddy gifted me a stainless guide rod (worthy upgrade)and my setup is complete and rocking.

Oh and make sure you depress the magazine release button when you INSERT the magazine the wear and tear on the plastic magazine for the catch wears out fast, which will make the magazine sit lower and give you feeding issues. (I use gaffer tape to protect that area)

I say if you can find it for under $300 go for it.
The only part I still hate is paying $35+ for the PLASTIC magazine...

p.s. Sigs like to run wet, make sure it's lubed! mine likes the militec treatment

Got this for my P220 combat. At first I was getting failures to ejects, then is started to smooth out. Since then I replaced the recoil rod, recoil spring, mag plugs, mag springs, and followers with Sigpower parts. My last range session it was jamming on every round. Would slide glide slow the cycle just enough to cause failure to feeds?

The slide glide you are using is it thick viscosity? The kit likes light thin oil, it doesn't like grease.

Ammo is always a factor, I never have any luck with Winchester or Remington, but Federal and CCI run well.

The kit also likes to run clean, can't let it gunk up.

I'm using the Slide Glide lite. Ammo is Federal. I'll try running it with just oil.
