    New 10/22 FTE. (WTF)

I just bought my first 10/22 stainless 18.5" rifle. I took it to the range and loaded it with federal rounds. (36 grain, copper plated hollow point, 1260fps at muzzle) It would randomly FTE. At least I have many other guns but this is my first 22lr. Is this normal? Is it a break in issue? Is it the Ammo? Please let me know your experiences

The two most useless gun terminology abbreviations are FTF or FTE.
FTF = Fail to Feed or Fail to Fire?
FTE = Fail to Extract or Fail to Eject?
    (Rant over)

Many newer Rugers need the original extractor reshaped for a better bite on the case or a replacment one from either Volquartsen or Power Custom or Kidd or whoever if you don't want to do it yourself.
The current original extractors often don't hold the fired case against the breechface correctly so the ejector never gets a chance to do its thing.
If you are experiencing "stovepipe" type jams, this is your fix.

    Otherwise, WTF does FTE mean?

Rimfires can be picky on the ammo they will, or will not, function correctly with. Perhaps try picking up a couple 50 round boxes of different ammo and see if the problem is fixed. Also, you took it apart and cleaned and lubed it, yeah?

It's common for rimfires to be picky with ammo, just try different brands as already suggested. Rimfires will have malfunctions more than center fires, usually.

Are you shooting 36 grain or 40 grain?

Don't forget just the right amount of lubrication also, it may be factory dry.

Did you clean it before shooting?

Ruger 10/22's operate best with no lube, other than a TINY bit on the action spring.

The traitor is the plague."......Cicero

I'd strip it down clean and lube. See if that helps. If not call Ruger. My 10/22's eat everything.

probably the ammo, try a few others.
or you could buy aftermarket springs rather spring.
I had a recent batch on the wally world value pack stuff that really gummed up my Buckmark on a HOT day.

Do you have an oversized aftermarket charging handle?

Try CCI Blazer, doubt you'll have an issue with that.

I've noticed the same thing with non OE mags. That's why I own 6 factory mags now.
