    Ruger Mk III Misfeed, ideas?

    Hey there Calguns,

I came across an issue for the first time today. Last night I disassembled and cleaned out my Mk III (My third time doing so, the other times went without a hitch and I've put close to 1.5k rounds through it with no failures of any kind). Today I take my gun to the range and no round will feed properly. The round will get caught up while being chambered, and the side of the round oriented towards the top of the pistol will have a gouge in it.

I've disassembled and reassembled my pistol multiple times but the problem persists. The problem also happens with every ammo I have on me (Federal Champion Bulk, CCI Blazer, CCI Mini Mag, Dummy rounds), all of which have gone through my gun before with absolutely no problem.

The RSO has no idea what's going on and the gunsmith won't be in until tomorrow, so I'm hoping someone on Calguns can tell me what's wrong.

Unfortunately happens to both of my mags, and since it started happening at the same time, I think it's an issue with the gun.

When you took it apart, did you actually take the receiver off of the frame?

Then it might be worth checking to see that it's completely back in place, although usually the mainspring housing won't go back if it's not aligned properly, but it's possible.

Also, did you try it with only one round in the magazine?

Those were my first and second thoughts. I checked and went as far as completely disassembling and reassembling the pistol again three times, but they all had the same result.

And I also tried with only one round in the magazine for both magazines I had on hand.

Pull the bolt back and look at the chamber face. You don't have anything like this do you?

I think you may have nailed it. There's something exactly like that at the top of the chamber face. Is this a common problem? And is there any way I can fix it without sending it into Ruger?

The firing pin stop pin probably fell out of the bolt when you had it apart and never noticed it. A couple of dry fires without that pin is all it takes to start the damage.
You can fix on your own with this.. http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=8...R-IRONING-TOOL / http://www.midwayusa.com/product/777...ool-22-rimfire

It'll swage out the metal protruding into your chamber. The dent will still be there on the face, but that shouldn't affect feeding.

Don't forget to look around your workspace for that pin. You can always order a new one if you can't find the original. Midway and shopruger both show out of stock, so you might have to do some looking around.
