Making the HP22a Suck a little less

The magazine did not fall freely, i removed the part of the safety block that holds tension against the mag:

The hammer would hold up on the Rear Plate (part #246) so I took both down until the slide no longer got stuck.

You removed it? can you easily place it back? from what I heard on one of those you tube mods, that part is not for sale/replaceable. Just saying that in case you need to send it back for repairs, it may void your warranty

No, you can't replace the removed metal.. I twisted it off with a pair of needlenose pliers. You can buy a replacement at Numrich for $5.

Not that it matters because i took a lot of metal off the hammer and some off the slide. It was very sticky before and would hang up if i cycled it by hand.

I just got my HP22A out of jail a couple of days ago. I have the same issue on the slide getting stuck when I cycle it. On closer look, I see that the hammer is getting hung up at the edge of the rear plate.
I'll be heading to the range tomorrow and break in this little bugger. If the slide is still getting hung up, I will file down the rear plate a bit, but not the hammer or slide.
As for the safety block, when you suggested where to get the part. I googled on how to remove/install it, and I found this instead,

So instead of cutting off or filing down the area that puts tension on the mag, I added a thin metal as shim, and it works. Now my mag falls down freely.

Sorry OP, not trying to crap on your thread, but if it makes you feel better, it gave me ideas I wasn't even thinking of, and also made me look further than those ideas at you tube. Thanks

I took off a lot of material on the hammer. It helped to smooth the action.

I also did not file the slide.

I modified the safety block because a shim could come loose and cause malfunctions.

I want one and I am having alot of trouble finding them. Does anyone know of a gun store that stocks them regularly?

You can try Faith Armory in Temecula, they had about 25 stacked up on the counter that last time i was in. http://www.faitharmory.com/

For mods be careful. There are several YT vids and not all are doing mods the right way. I have forgotten now which is which but after you review them all you will know which mods were done the right way and also do not void the warranty. Yes, in doing the right way you lose a part which is replaceable. On one of the vids he did the wrong way, screwed the gun and the parts werent replaceable and he had to toss it. Phoenix knows what people are doing and will cooperate on new parts unless you do it the wrong way and then nobody will help.

Sorry to go off topic alittle but see some of you want them and looking for them. For those that have it recently how has the gun held up and what ammo? I hare cracked frame is common with them.

You guys should also get the "last round hold open" kit that they sell on ebay.
