    Marvel Precision Unit

    Hi Folks,

I have been looking at Marvel Precision Unit for either my Colt NM or STI 2011. Will be used to mainly to practice and occasionally participate in "rimfire challenge" like events.

A few questions regarding Marvel Precision Unit.

    1. Should I get a unit for Colt NM or STI 2011? (Both with excellent trigger)

    2. How does it stack against Ruger MkII, S&W M41 and comparable 22LR pistol?

    3. Unit 1 vs. Unit 2. Any experiences? Compensator? Cool but do I need one in 22LR?

    4. What is up with $63 magazine?

    5. I know that Bob Marvel left the company and doing his own thing, have the products suffered any drop off in quality?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

The Marvel Unit 1's can compete with any rimfire pistol I'm aware of for accuracy. Mine came with a test target of .82 inches at 50 yards from a rest. My best friend and I both have/had one, (he passed away in December)and they were purchased about 1 year ago. With the right ammo they are very reliable and phenomenally accurate. We went with the hybrid rib so we could use open sights or mount red dot sights.

I'd purchase one for whatever pistol you don't shoot as often if they both have good trigger jobs.

The magazines we purchased were the steel magazines which are in fact Colt SM Ace magazines as mine from my Ace work flawlessly with the Marvel Units.

I know Nighthawk was selling a new updated version that had a slide that locked open on the last shot, but I heard they had problems with that unit and suspended sales, don't know the current status.

For competition the Unit 1 is what I'd go with personally, and no you don't need a compensator imho as the recoil is already negligible.
"You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."
"What we get away with isn't usually the same as what's good for us"
"An extended slide stop is the second most useless part you can put on a 1911"

"While Ruger DA revolvers may be built like a tank, they have the aesthetics of one also,
although I suppose there are a few tanks which I owe an apology to for that remark"

You can also use the Kimber 22 magazines which are a lot less expensive.
The compensator is more for the cool factor.
I have a unit one and it is accurate.
The one downer is the slide does not lock back on the last shot. In comparison the Advantage Arms 1911 target version is almost as accurate, cheaper by a few bucks and has the slide lock back on the last shot.

I just shot the Ruger Rimfire series in San Luis Obispo last weekend with a Marvel unit 2 on top of a 70 series Colt frame. It shot great. No issues what so ever.

The only issue I had with the unit was the mags. The Marvel mags are way too pricey. I tried regular Colt Ace mags, but had lots of issues with them. I switched to GSG 1911 magazines and at first they would not feed the second round with a full mag. After I trimmed off 2 coils from the bottom of the Mag spring they worked flawless. The GSG mags are soo much better than ace mags.

Also, stick with CCI Minimags until the unit gets broken in.

Buy Metalform mags or GSG mags. Use a midway coupon, or if you have a C&R FFL get the metalforms from Brownells.

Unless you plan on shooting bullseye competition, the unit2 will meet your needs.

Unit 1s are as accurate or more accurate than rugers, buckmarks, and model 41s. Don't know about the super expensive European pistols.

No quality issues with current Marvel Precision Co. production. They even came out recently with a steel lock-back version. The original versions don't lock back on the last round.
