    Ammo question..

I've been using CCI Blazer lately with my Sig 522 and it's been shooting pretty well. The question I had was is hallow point bad to use if your precision shooting at 100+ yard distances? My thinking is that it would be as the hallow point would cause drag and slow it down.

    What do folks typically use?

    Hollow point = no effect
    Weight and Charge = effect

Lighter bullets get pushed around by the wind
Heavier bullets have a greater drop

For precision shooting you need standard velocity ammunition, something like Wolf Match Target or better. Hi-velocity ammo transitions from super-sonic to sub-sonic at around 50yds. That transition causes the bullet to wobble and affects accuracy. Standard velocity ammo is sub-sonic at the muzzle so it does not go thru that transition.

All precision match ammo has a round nose lead bullet with some type of waxy lube. No HP ammo is used for precision (match) shooting.

What is your definition of precision shooting @ 100yds? Typically that means MOA or Sub-MOA groupings, five shot group in 1" circle @ 100yds. This normally requires a benchrest rifle with high magnification scope and match ammo to achieve this type of precision. Another choice would be .17HMR.
