    Need some help, ASAP

I just ordered this folding stock from amazon.

I have the stainless steel 10/22, if I installed the stock, would it be CA legal?

I'm just really confused about length and stuff, I thought .22s were exempt, though .22 handguns with threaded barrels considered to be assault weapons. So I thought I'd ask.

Rimfire rifles are exempt from the A/W ban (unless the make model is listed by name). Rimfire handguns are not exempt from the A/W ban.

Since you are dealing with a rimfire rifle you don't need to worry about evil A/W features. You just need to worry about keeping the rifle over 26" in length in its shortest fireable configuration to avoid California's "short barreled rifle" law.

Some 10/22 folding stocks will let the rifle go below 26" in fireable configuration with a 16" barrel. That would mean you would need a longer barrel or a muzzle device of some kind. Some guys add a piece to the back of the stock that sticks out an extra inch or so when the stock is folded.

Under Federal law and most other States' laws the overall length is measured with the stock extended. That's why some stocks are available that give you a less than 26" length with the stock folded. It's only California that measures with the stock folded.

The stainless ones like yours are 18.5" long barrels so you are OK.
Folded will be just over 27".
      All is well, remain calm.

        Phew! Thanks guys!

Looked up the measurements on amazon, one of the reviewers pointed out that the compact versions will be illegal in ca. Cool. Thank you.

Here's mine. It's great because you can adjust LOP when shooting with kids and adults. As stated, don't use a 16" barrel with the folding stock. I like the ATI stock but you might have to use some bedding compound to keep the barreled action snug in the ATI stock, at least that's what I had to do. Enjoy!

The barrel is not loose but there was some play in my action/trigger group. This was my experience but yours may be different. If you have some play, let me know and I'll try and show you what I did.

thanks Evo, mine doesn't have much play, except for the barrel, but just a tiny bit. I didn't install any rails but I might if I get some grips or something. Thanks again folks. I really like the stock
