To buy or not buy a Marlin 39A Golden lever action .22?

I was talking to one of our cattle guys and he is selling his Marlin 39A Golden. By the sounds of it, the rifle is in good condition and it appeals to me for it's capacity and versatility being that it can shoot short, long, and long rifle. I do have plenty of other .22's, but none in lever action...is that reason enough to buy it lol? It's pre cross bolt safety and to my understanding they are good rifles with very few negative reviews.

Not having one is reason enough to buy one.

Lol, never thought of it that way...thank you. I'm going to take a look at it, it can't hurt. I know it's just a .22 but to my understanding Marlin discontinued these with the exception of their $3,000 custom shop model. If it's in good condition I might just buy it.

I have a Henry Golden Boy here. It's an excellent alternative.

Depending on the price, yes, buy it. I bought mine new in 2011, so it has the cross bolt safety. Added Skinner Peep Sight. Great shooter.

I had a half written post comparing the henry, marlin, Winchester, and browning. But the answer is just yes. If you like lever action 22s the answer to this one is yes.

They are beautiful rifles, great fit and finish and in my opinion, the Golden Mountie with it’s 20” barrel pointed better than longer barreled offerings. I have two Marlin TDS rifles and wouldn’t hesitate to buy a Golden in good condition

The Marlin 39 / 39A family of rifles, are ones I could own multiples of. Problem is, where to put them.
