GSG 1911 in jail - first range report

Put my gsg 1911 I'm jail yesterday. The wait begins! Just wanted to share the good news.

What modifications, if any did you do? I was thinking of a new guide rod and bushing and that's about it for now.

I put some hogue grips on but that's it do far. I thought about the bushing but haven't got to it yet. Make sure you pick up a couple extra mags

Just shot mine today. Was hitting 6/10, 12" plates from 30 yards. Love this gun.

Search for Ubermcoupe's thread on the GSG. I have a SS guide rod and spring, mainspring housing, and barrel bushing. Also put on some Hogue diamond grips and called it a day.

Your mainspring housing looks like bare metal and flat. Did it come like that?
Mine came with a black, rounded mainspring housing. Yours looks much nicer and I really prefer the flat housing.

Thanks. No, I swapped it out. I think this one came from a Springfield 1911, but I'm not 100% on that. If you like the look, you can totally buy a flat mainspring housing and swap it yourself. Just use all the internal components (spring and pin I think) from your GSG and install in new flat mainspring housing. The feel is much better IMO with a flat one.

Oh, and while your in there you can eliminate the mag safety if you'd like. I did.

Yeah, I called around and just before I was going to order it from Buds, I called Sportsman's Supply in Campbell. They had a couple so I ran down and put one away. Decent price. While buds is cheaper, after the transfer fee it's not much of a savings and I'd rather support a local shop anyway. Good guys.
