Bent spring on brand new gun!!!!

I just kinked my recoil spirng on my new Marlin 795!!!
My only day off for the next 12 days and I can't sight in
my tech sights!!!!!! Got it all back together and every seems ok
but I dont think its ok to fire. Well better safe than sorry.

Depends on how bad it is, if its just got a slight curve to it its fine. If you actually kinked a coil then yea its probably best to not fire it.

I have an extra recoil spring on hand for each of my 795's.

Full s curve! Ordered 2 from midway they'll be here before my next day off. Ive calmed down a bit but I could still kick myself. Cant even swear out loud my mother n law was in the room when it happened.

I think everyone does this with their 795. Order a new one off numrich. Actually, order a few.

I've only taken my 795 apart one time- when we first got it. I guess I'll add these springs to the spare parts order I need to place one of these days.

my moseberg 22 bent the spring so bad i broke it in 2 peaces trying to fix it. it took over a month to get another one. this rifle was 4 days old . i put it back together in 2 peaces and it worked fine that way.

Did the same damn thing to my gun.
I think it's a right of passage.
Being able to reassemble it without bending the recoil spring qualifies you as a shade tree gunsmith.

I brought mine home and disassembled it for a good cleaning after reading all about all the new guns full of shavings. I bent the spring on re-assembly to have two 90* bends. I used some small pliers and bent it back and have shot a bunch of rounds thru it with no real issues.

Is this the long spring we're talking about? I don't know what all of the different springs are called in there.

If you bent it into a S shape, it won't matter much. Once it's compressed and installed, it's all streighten out in the round cut out hole in the bolt. Gun will function just fine more than likely.
My spring is not perfectly streight even from factory, works ok no problem.

Just buy a new one and replace it.
Clean the gun thoroughly at the same time.
You'll be good to go for the foreseeable future.

Welcome to the Grand Order Of the Bent Spring [Or GOOBS] thats a rite of pasage with marlin owners. keep a spair and you will also get used to bending them back into shape. Using the guide rod I can bend most back into at least working shape. I have 6 boys and at one time I had 9 Model 60s, so Ive delt with a few bent springs! Welcome friend! DR

I did the same thing to my model 60. I kinked the the spring in two places reassembling it the first time out. I bent it back into shape using some needle nose pliers and it has worked fine since, but it doesn't hurt to have an extra recoil spring lying around.

The best way that I have found to reinstall the spring and the bolt assembly is to give it one strong push. Trying to ease the bolt in seems to cause the kinking in my experience. I would advise wearing eye protection when you do this.

Welcome to the club! I did the same thing to a Model 60. You can sort of bend it back with some needle nose pliers to where it'll function, but you'll probably want to replace it.

I replaced the recoil spring with one from J&P Sales.

I guess I am lucky as I have not done it to either mine or my Girlfriends 795's and they each get fully stripped and cleaned after each range trip (which at minimum is once a month).

But like I said I keep extras on hand for when I do finally join the club!
