    Cleaning

I know there are many threads on cleaning and what products memebers use. I have read a few and I am still a little lost on what to use.

For now I will be cleaning a Savage MK I FVT and a Ruger 10/22 take down. what do you guys recommend?

If you can put this in simple terms as I am new to this world.

    Thanks for the info.

Get yourself a bore snake and some Hoppes No. 9, as well as a standard cleaning kit. You should be good to go.

After reading lots of articles, I don't clean my .22lr barrel anymore. When I shot in competitive .22 in high school, we never cleaned the anschutz target barrels. My coach said that over time the copper/carbon fouling smoothed over the rough spots in a .22 barrel. We wiped down the bolts and actions only with some CLP. Now I do the same with .22lr AR upper. Just clean the bolt, and that's about it.

i believe in solvent and oil , i do not like the combo stuff. i like a clean gun inside and out. when in doubt clean it.

It's ok to be jealous. We understand your animosity. We live the life you wish you had. And of over 4000 universities and over 1700 division 1 schools, only one is simply known as "The U"

For a cleaning solvent I really like Hoppes Elite(same as MPro 7), I started using it instead of #9 several years ago, its just way faster.

For lube I use Tetra Grease, Slip 2000 (big friction areas) and Gun Butter (small moving parts), but I still use CLP or Hoppes for certain jobs. CLP for quick all-in-one clean and lube jobs at the range and the Hoppes oil I still use to lightly lube barrel bores after cleaning.
