Red dot and mount for Browning Buckmark

I’ve been during some research on this topic. Outer Impact dot mount gets good reviews over a pic rail. I’d like to hear what set up works for you.
    My concerns/needs include:

    - a dot that’s light enough to not mess with the cycling of my Buckmark’s action.

    - a top or side battery door, don’t want to remove it for battery changes.

    - please tell me what your setup is and perhaps where you purchased the mount and dot.

    Thank you!

    Howdy from Sacramento!

I too did a bunch of research before choosing the Outer Impact mount and Vortex Venom 3moa red dot. The Vortex is lightweight and doesn't interfere with any function of the pistol. Super clear dot w adjustable brightness. Easy to adjust too, IMO. The Outer Impact mount is rock solid, lightweight, and very low profile, which I like.

I got the mount direct from Outer Impact, like 80 bucks.

New, the Venom is like 200, but you can find them on sale for less and over the years I've purchased two off Calguns barely used for about 150. Never had to change the battery yet, but it's accessible via the top. The OI mount does not impede the battery compartment.

I regularly take ground squirrels from 10 to 50 yards with this setup using Rem Golden Bullets. Almost like cheating to have the RD on top - just point and shoot as long as your fundamentals are good. Highly recommend both the OI mount and Vortex RD.

I can't seem to get pics posted, but if you're interested, PM me your email and I can send you some pics of my setup.

    Good luck!

I guess I'm old-school. The buckmark has a Tactical Solutions picatinny rail with a built-in adjustable rear sight. On it is a Bushnell trs-25. The setup works great for plinking and range work.

Here it is with a different red dot.

You don't need to worry about a red dot's weight slowing down the slide. The rail replaces the rear sight, which is attached to the barrel and frame. The slide operates below that.

I've got a Burris Fastfire ...III? I think on mine. Works great, no complaints.

I got the Outer Impact top plate that replaces the rear sight and top late on my Buck Mark. Mount the screws with blue locktite and it will be good. This gives you plenty of options for RDS that mount to the plate, and they sit relatively low to the bore axis. I got a Holosun green dot on mine.

The gun will cycle fine irrespective of the RDS weight as the RDS is stationary, the bolt slide below the top plate where it mounts. This is pretty nice as the RDS stays stationary while firing like a race gun.

            I just used TacSol.

Have had good results with SwampFox Kingslayer green dot.

              Tacsol Pic rail
Sig Romeo 5 enclosed-style (carbine) RDS
Works well, I've been shooting Bullseye league with it and learning a lot.
One issue I have with Buckmarks is that you have to remove the rail to take apart the gun for proper cleaning. That means rezeroing / reconfirming zero with the RDS (because I'm shooting at 25 and 50 yards, a tiny change when putting the rail back on will have an effect).

Do you take the barrel off to clean?

If you do, just leave the rail attached to the barrel. Zero should stay pretty close.

Personally I don't take the barrel or rail off if I don't have to because I am leery about steel screws in aluminum threads.

For cleaning I just lock the slide back then clean and lube the action, for the barrel I run a boresnake through it. This seems to work fine for the last few years and thousands of rounds. I guess at some point I will need to take it apart for a proper cleaning, but will wait till it starts to show signs of a more thorough cleaning required.

Same. I squirt some Wipe-Out down the barrel a couple times while it's sitting muzzle down in an old clorox wipes container. Boresnake, squirt of brake cleaner to get rid of any leftover Wipe-Out, then a boresnake with CLP.

Q-tips with One-Shot for whatever nooks and crannies I can reach.

FNGGlock, would that be the Holosun 507k?
My wife and use them on our carry guns and think they’re great

I used the same rail, but put on a vortex venom. Still light weight, hasn't affected reliability.

I fitted a Holosun 507-C-X2 ACSS green that Primary Arms used to sell, I believe it is the same footprint as the 507k. Fits perfect on the Outer Impact top plate. I believe it supports other footprints as well. The nice thing about the Buck Mark is that the RDS is static on the pistol and barrel, less stress on the mount and stable sight picture

Thank you. I have the ACSS Vulcan on my XDM 10mm in green and that is my favorite optic.

I’m also ordering the Eliminator guide rod from Striplin Custom Gunworks. I can’t remember how many c-clips I’ve launched from my Buckmark over the years when breaking it down for cleaning and spring/buffer changes.
