    Buckmark Camper vs Practical Barrel

I have this gun: Buck Mark Practical URX - California Compliant

I am wanting to try a stainless barrel. Looking at their price list I see that they sell a stainless camper barrel.

This is what the Camper looks like: Buck Mark Camper UFX - California Compliant

When I called the parts dept, they said you could not put a camper barrel on the practical. But... those barrels sure look the same to me. Anyone have any input?

I always heard most Buckmark barrels were somewhat interchangeable (obviously some might require rail changes and what-not).

Before anyone asks why I want to try I stainless barrel, let's just leave it at "I just do".

In reference to the links you provided:
The practical has a fiber optic front sight.
The camper does not have a fiber optic front sight.
Other than that, the barrels are the same.

Yeah, I think I've come to that conclusion. I use a red dot so front sights are irrelavant.

I am also trying to figure out if I could put a contour on there, but still use the shorter TacSol picatinny rail I am currently using, even if it looks a little weird.

you will lose the front sign if you don't you the Contour top plate. But if you use red dot then is OK.

          Yeah, use a red dot.

So as far as you know, on the contour barrel, the position of the screw hole over the chamber is the same as all the other barrels? They didn't do some weird position to require the use of the full length and thwart the very thing I am thinking about doing?

Yeah I'm on there already. Their resident Buckmark experts (chim and nolan) appear to be on hiatus to some extent.

                Another question for you.

Across all Buckmark barrel types (contour, slab, bull, etc), will the dimension shown in the picture always be the same distance? Reason I ask is I want to know if I HAVE to use the long full length contour rail or not. If I can get away with using the short little TacSol rail I've got now, I'll do it.

I have not run into any problems swapping different buckmark barrels around.
That's not going to answer your specific question about specific models, but is just to say that I have not seen any differences in all the buckmark barrels I have moved around.
They all just fit fine with whatever top rail the gun had originally or with aftermarket dot mounts that were replacing the original top strap.

                    Thanks for your help!

FYI, after MUCH digging on RFC I found 2 people who had the same question as me and it turns out yeah, you can stick any old rail (with std screw spacing) on the contour.
