    Remington 591 M

I just won a Remington 591 and got 100 rounds of ammo (ouch!) and wonder if anyone has experience with the gun and cartridge.

I'm assuming the receiver groove accepts 3/8" tip off mounts. I have plenty of "period correct" scopes for it, am thinking a Japan made Bushnell 4 to 12X with AO. The magwell looks empty so I'm assuming I'll have to buy one. The originals are expensive as heck, but there's an aftermarket readily available, but not cheap. Any other Remington magazines that fit? Am doubting but no harm asking.

    Any quirks to the rifle?

I'll have to clean up the wood a bit, not an issue.

Shoots flatter than a .22Mag, and hits harder than a .17HMR, one of Remington's biggest screw ups not promoting it. Prepare to say ouch a lot, that 100rnds won't last long.

Just said "ouch" buying my 1st 100 rounds of ammo - $125.00.

I guess the plus is that I get to pick up the rifle in OR using my C&R and there's no sales tax, no CA fees or shipping.

Don't know if the rifle comes with a magazine. Originals are hard to find and expensive as heck. There's an aftermarket maker for$50.00. Another ouch.

That's why I hardly shoot my 22 hornet anymore. Almost impossible to find ammo and when you do look out. Found plenty on Gunbroker but $70/25 rounds up to $300 starting bid for 100 rounds is just crazy.

Well at least 22 Hornet can be reloaded. I just got 500 rounds of 5mm and it was a bit more economical - 500 rounds for $255.00 with shipping included. Should keep me for a while!
