    Scope decisions AGAIN!!!

Well, I got a couple fun plinking rifles recently one being the Savage 93R17BSEV with the boyds thumbhole evolution stock, and a Mossberg MVP in .223. ( I know it isn't a rimfire but it will pertain. ) Anyway, I get to the range and the Savage has a Truglo Infinity 6-24x44 with 4" sunshade and adjustable objective with a fine target hair. The Mossberg had a BSA Sweet .223 scope with turrets for different grain drop compensation. Seemed to be all good to go and got both zeroed in at 25 yards and was taking them to 100, and when I was attempting to adjust the distance on the Sweet 223 to 100 all the front lens would do was spin. I switched the Truglo over to the Mossberg and am happy with that as its shooting Sub MOA and I'm not going to screw with it if it isn't broke. I'm going to trade up a bit and was going back and forth between a few scopes and was looking for input on what to put on the Savage. Its a Stainless gun with spiral fluted barrel so kind of flashly looking but I am not terribly particular about the scope color although if I had my choice silver would be the one. (This isn't a make it or break it decision either.)

First scope in mind was the Mueller APV 4.5-14x40 AO here:

Next up was a Konus Konuspro-550 4-16x50 AO

The next one I'm kind of skeptical because Tasco is known for junk, but these I've heard good things on rimfire central. Its a Tasco 6-24x44 Target/Varmint with fine hairs and a 1/8MOA dot in the middle. Also, its only a .17 so I'm not worried about recoil of any sort. I've heard remarkable things on the clarity of these scopes on other sites and would be interested. I can get it for just $109.99 at a couple places.

Last but not least was a Vortex Crossfire 4-16x50 30mm tube with AO as well, and its priced right there with the Mueller

I'm leaning toward the Vortex first, Mueller 2nd, and Konus third for no real particular reason but I've had great luck with Vortex in the past. I like the silver but ideally want the best optics for the buck and for $119, adjustable objective, 30mm tube (even though it isn't silver) it appears to be a solid scope for the money. I had a Crossfire 6-24x40 in a 1" tube and it had really decent clarity for a $99 scope. I'm torn between the three and wondered what you guys would think of any of the 3. I'm not doing another BSA scope because of the bad experience this time even though it was only $69.99, but its just not worth it. Honestly the clarity on it was great all things considered but I'd rather go a tad higher price wise and get a better scope. Also, I'm open to any suggestions with at least a 14x or higher magnification. Adjustable objective is pretty much a must for rimfire and doing different tasks with the .17 will help a lot! This is my varmint gun and does really well with the exception of the scope failing. It'll shoot Sub MOA all day with Hornady ammo.

    Any thoughts?????

EDIT: I really don't want a mil-dot scope, and the finer the crosshair the better. The one I really want is the weaver target dot but I won't fork out the $$$ right now on it to cover the cost.

I have a vortex 3-9x50 on my 10/22 and absolutely love it. That's what will be going on my next build as well.

I have a couple of these old scopes called Simmons White Tail Classic. IMO they're like hidden gems. Really nice scope for the money. Midway has them for usually around $100 I think. Great value.

I'll see if I can dig up a pic.

I personally think 50mm scopes are a bit too big for small rifles but of those on your list my choice would be the for would be the APV or Vortex just based on my experience with Vortex's binoculars.

The Simmons WTC aren't too bad for big heavy (22oz) monsters. I've had one die which cost me return shipping charges plus Simmons' $15 warranty replacement fee for a total of about $30 to get a $110 scope fixed and I keep it around for a spare. They are nice and bright scopes but the crosshairs are pretty thick. Thick crosshairs are also the downfall of the light duty (.223 max) but otherwise decent Mueller APV.

I bought a Nitrex 6-20X50 at a gun show as an experiment. It's probably my favorite scope now. I have it on a Brno#1 and the combination is fantastic.

Natchez has a silver one here..

Unfortunately, out of stock, and a bit more than I want to spend for a .17hmr as well. I am really trying to stay under $150 and think the Mueller APV is going to be the one. If not, the Vortex Crossfire seems to fit the bill and they're $119 and $129
