any experience with Heritage Rough Rider 22LR SAA jamming ?

    hello all,

I just bought a Heritage Rough rider 22 SAA, there had been some general complaints about these guns, but I though it looked fine,

I took it out of the box, loaded it, and shot 6 rounds of Winchester Wildcat 22 LR, then I reloaded it, and it jammed after the second shot, what I mean by jammed was it would not cock, as if an empty shell had backed out and was jamming the cylinder, but I could not find anything wrong with it, that I could see, I pulled the cylinder out, and reloaded it 2 or 3 more times, same result, after shot #2 the gun would not cock,

So I got home and tried to see where it was jamming but did not see anything, all I did was take the cylinder out and put it back in and cycle the action a bunch of times, but could not get it to jam this way (did not want to fire gun in the house)

Then 2 weeks later I go to another gun range, pull out the pistol, and it works fine all day, no jams, nothing wrong at all, worked fine with 3 diff types of ammo, including winchester wildcat, Browning and Aguila, so I am stumped,

anyone have a similar experience and know why it jammed ?

    thanks

I've got a couple of them and vaguely remember someone that was looking at it jamming up the 16" barrel one somehow. It wasn't serious, and only took a minute of fiddling with it to fix it, but the hammer was at partial cock and the cylinder wouldn't turn. It's been fine ever since, though I've only had it out to shoot a few times since then also.

Did you compare the old and new part?
Any chance you took a picture that would show what was wrong with the old one?

When you wonder what a Rohm Single Action would have been like....

I had a Rohm 66 single action 22lr. It was flawless in the brick of ammo I put through it. Should have kept it but a friend wanted it for his kid. There were definitely some Rohms that were junk but that one in particular was just fine.

I have a few of these. The tolerances between the back of the cylinder and the breech face (?) is very “tight.” I put that in quotes because it’s not a good tight tolerance. There isn’t enough space between the cylinder and the breech face for the cylinder to rotate freely after a shot that expanded the 22 casing and pushed it against the breech. You can lightly sand it before shooting it the first time, or just brute force it for a few shots. I forced it on mine and it’s been fine ever since.

By the way, just to clarify, it’s not the cylinder causing the hang up. It’s the expanded 22 casing.

Me too, mine works every time. I've got the mag cylinder, and it too has been flawless. I think it's from the '60s, PAX
