    Marlin 795 Bolt Hold issue

The last two times ive gone to the range, the last shot hold has failed to keep the bolt open. Ive tried a full clean, used mini-mags to test after the clean and still having issues. when i put an empty mag in, it functions just fine but after the final shot, I have to yank back the bolt to open it. also tried two different mags & checked the mags for burrs, dents, & folded corner issues.

checked out the internals and it looks fine, i'm just out of ideas on what could be wrong?

Have you tried changing ammo? When I first took the marlin out to the range, I used winchester super X lead nose and encountered the same problem you described. I switched to remington thunderbolts and winchester copper plated rounds and the last shot hold open functions perfectly.

i switched between mini mags & fed bulk pack ammo. the bolt would hold for the first mag but fail the rest of the time.

I have a marlin 795 and a marlin 7000 and both of them do that on and off.

This issue pops up with the 795 sometimes. You can fix it by taking a dremel and smoothing out the burr that forms on the Last Shot Hold Open Lever in the location where the lever contacts and holds the bolt open. Sand paper could work as well. The burr can seem very small to the eye but you'll probably be able to feel it. I hope this helps.

went over it with a fine tooth comb couldn't find any burrs. also it seems to have a hard bolt pull when the gun dryfires. after that the bolt slides back just fine.
