I am to buy a new bolt action rifle.

I want some thing with better that so so acuracy.

Not sure what I want. 22 lr, 22mag , or maybe 17 hmr.

What do you all suggest? I am looking for some thing under $1000.....closer to $700.

For under $1000, it's hard to beat the CZ 450 series.
For under $500, it's hard to beat the Savage Mark II series.

I have some Ruger American rimfire rifles that shoot okay, accuracy-wise.
I have a Springfield Waypoint 2020 rimfire that also shoots okay, accuracy wise.

With all the money I spent on mediocre rimfire bolt action rifles, I could have gotten a Vudoo or Rim-X.

      Or Anschutz

I have several Savage 93r17s and they all shoot lights out w no mods other than a thumbhole stock (and Savage has a model that comes with one). I like the accu-trigger that comes stock on the rifle. I use them for shooting ground squirrels and they perform flawlessly. Not expensive either, so the bang for the buck is good, IMO. Good luck whatever you choose!

Savage 93r17 is a good low-budget rifle, it is very accurate (I have it in 17HMR)
but if you want to get a more refined (yes more money) the CZ 457 is my favorite rimfire (I have the Varmint MTR in .22LR) is super accurate, and custom-built smooth!

I've been real happy with the accuracy of the CZ 452 Ultra Lux in .22 LR I picked up years ago.

cz-usa-cz-452-ultra-lux-1.pngWell, it could use a trigger job, but still shoots under an 1" at 50 yards with no strain using a scope and I could hit milk jug bottle caps at 25 yds. offhand, with the irons, no problem.

As others have said, it's more expensive than, say, the Savage, but it does come in at or around your preferred price range in the modern versions.

Cz 457 or tikka t1x are probably the most common mass market guns that most folks would recommend. No downsides to either. I went 457 and am super happy with it. Good looking rifle, stupid accurate, takes well under 10 minutes to swap between 17 hmr and 22 lr.

I agree, the Savage accu-trigger is amazing. I bought a MK II BV several years ago and it is a tack driver.

I went with a Bergara B14r carbon fiber barrel. Runs about 1k, sub 1MOA for me

I would say figure out the caliber first. The CZs are nice in that you can swap the barrel, mag plates and mags to between the calibers you are looking at.

I got a CZ 457 Varmint and love it. With the Wolf Match Extra (lower end target ammo) it gets 1MOA or better at 100yds if I do my part. It is a heavy pig though, so mostly for bench or prone shooting. The action is smooth and wood stock is beautiful. Trigger is great and can easily be modified for a crisp 1lb break. Mags are pricey and sometimes hard to get.

22lr gets finicky with wind past 50 yds, the more powerful rimfire will be a better choice for accuracy at 100yds and out. Though 22mag or 17hmr is a lot more pricey than 22. 22lr is good for subsonic shooting as that gives the best accuracy, and low noise.

Think about your requirements in terms of desired accuracy, distances, ammo cost and especially use.

Hard to beat a CZ457/455 for your price point
