Grip modification for Mark III 22/45?

Getting disenchanted with my Mark III largely because the grip is just too darn thin. I want to get input from Calgunners who have modified their 22/45's to accept 1911 grip panels. How did you do it? Was it easy to DIY, or was a gunsmith involved? I'm not looking for collector-grade or anything, I have a pair of tan rubber Hogue panels in mind for this purpose - frankly I wouldn't care if they were permanently glued/screwed/attached to the frame. I know that any modification, no matter how expertly done, will automatically decrease the resale value, but as this is the bare bones 22/45, not too worried about that.

I own two Ruger 22/45 handguns but have not done the grip modification. If I do decided to get it done, I would send it to a gentleman who goes by the screen name kinghouse41225. Pretty much you tape off the area and use a dremel with sanding disks to remove material and make a flat area for the grip panels to attach then you tap it for screw bushings. I've done a lot of mods to a lot of guns and have used a dremel to do all sorts of things but I would be worried about doing this one personally.

I just purchased a Pachmyr grip glove for my 22/45. Of course you have to remove it to strip the gun, but that is easy. They don't list the 22.45, but the CZ75/85 is one I got and it adds enough bulk for me. I paid around $10 at Amazon and by adding to the order, the shipping was free.

I think I like this idea better - I actually sent them an email yesterday but have not heard back from him yet.

I have these on my 22/45 MKIII and they made a big difference. I went with the rubberized black grips and also got the 1911 screws and base pads. The finish on the grips is not perfect but in black it's hard to tell. I would recommend them. Takes about a month from ordering to delivery, just FYI.

I've got a set of the black rubberized Tech-Custom grips. Never installed. I didn't care for them once I got them. If somebody wants them let me know. I'll make you a deal. You'll have to get your own grip screws though.

Well I had mine done by kingshouse and he does do nice work, Picture below
The ONLY drawback is he is slow .......... sent it Jan 3 and got it back April 9 and only after bugging him daily for two weeks.
If you add the fatter grips look into adding an extended mag release which is available from midwayusa

Kingshouse does nice work. I'm fortunate to have a machine shop and be able to do my own stuff.
