    10/22 tech-sights + scope

Went to Chabot this Sunday and shot 300 rounds through my first gun, a brand new 10/22. I had already installed tech-sights TSR-100 and spent some time adjusting and zeroing them at 50 yards with a friend.

I want to be able to install a scope along with the tech sights for longer range precision and want to keep the tech sights on. My plan is to get a rail, use the two front screw holes and drill and tap a third near the front end of the rear sight. The rear sight is about an inch tall and the peep holes are about 0.8 in above the receiver. Being able to use iron sights and scope at the same time is not an absolute must but is a definite plus.

Will probably go with one of these rails and cut it to size and so it doesn't extend past the front of the receiver

    I like this mount

but may have to go with something like this to be able to use iron sights

    1. Can anybody confirm that the receiver holes are tapped for 6x48
    2. Anybody have any experience with this and can recommend a mounting system that will work

Here is a picture with sights on in case with rice desiccant. The second pic is the10/22 next to an airsoft G36K. I think I may have to get another 10/22 with a promag kit and get one of the better replica carry handles with scopes and hopefully red dot.

Swapping sites back and forth is just not a practical solution and fixed irons and a scope a the same time is a compromise that just never works well. Seriously, just buy another 10/22 if you want one with iron sites and one scoped. If you do put a rail on a 10/22, DO get one where the rail hangs forward past the end of the reciever. Most of the time on a 10/22, the scope needs to be that far forward for proper eye relief.

I wouldn't be swapping back and forth. Keep the Tech-Sights on the 10/22 and buy a second rifle to scope later.

If a red dot will suffice, you could go with this set up:

Rail is from here, http://www.nodakspud.com/NDS-22.htm, model NDS-26; RDS is Bushnell TRS25. They DO co-witness quite nicely. The TRS25 comes off easily if you want pure aperture sights.

Oh, you WILL need to change out the front sight to something taller; Nodak NDS-40 works for me.

Are you using the NDS-37 rear site?

I agree with these folks. I have tried repeatedly, on a 10/22, and on several other rifles, to be able to switch easily between irons and scopes. It has never worked well. It seems like the kind of thing that might be workable with folding sights on an AR. With 10/22s I am convinced that the two-rifle approach is the only way to go.

I ended up buying another 10/22. Now I have one with model 100 tech sights and one with The Busnell TRS25 like JohnFland above has. More practical to have two set up and done for what the 10/22 is.

I have three rifles that i shoot with irons as well as scopes it has worked out well for me. On one of my 10-22s i have Tech Sights and i quad rail that i cut i have a EER scope on the rail it comes on and off the rail without change of zero. On my other 10-22 i have Weaver see-threw scope mounts and Hi-Viz irons. My Mini 14 weaver see-threw rings with a M1 Carbine rear sight.

                      Correct, the threads are 6 x 48.
Brownell's has them in longer lengths than the originals if you need them.
