Recommended scope for 10/22

Picking up my Ruger 10/22 in a couple of days and I'm looking to put a scope in the near future. It's my first rifle and I was wondering what would make for a good quality yet affordable (something around 50-70 dollars) scope. I think I would like a 3x-9x but a 4x might be good as well, dont really understand the pros and cons of each besides a zoom. So I guess also scope noobie thread haha

I found the nikon prostaff 4x32 at optics planet for 109.99 with a 50.00 rebate for 59.99. Got great reviews, and i dont plan on shooting this .22 longer than 100 yds so i think it will be a good fit. From what i read, its a good quality scope without breaking the bank.

yea i've looked at that too. the rebate is limited on time and i dont think ill buy in that time frame but i might who knows lol. looking for something a little more basic

I'd spend just a bit more for a Weaver Classic Rimfire in either 4x28 or 2.5-7x28 (review). You get what you pay for in scopes and these are small enough that you should be able to get away with low rings.

I got in mine a 4 x32 .22rimfire ...29 dollars works same as any other top brands...enjoy your 10/22

I use a Simmons 3-9 x 32 and love it. I've only had to sight it in once and it's held zero for about 1500 rounds. Crystal clear glass too. Makes my Ruger 10/22 deadly accurate at 100 yards!

Simmons 22 Mag. or a BSA Sweet 22 are good plinking scopes for the $$.
The next step up would be a Mueller then Nikon, Burris, Weaver, Leupold...

I used to say the same thing until I accidentally zeroed in on steels targets @200 yards and was taking small pieces of clay targets into smaller pieces with my 10/22 target. I just bought a 3-9x50mm to be able to do paper targets at that distance...

I spent time at ProBass last weekend trying to answer the same question. I wanted a AO scope in the 2-7x to 4-12x range.

I didn't like the low cost Simmons and Redfield scopes. (I have experience with high end SLRs and Medical Microscopes)
I felt the Nikon Prostaff scopes had lesser quality glass than Vortex and Leupold. Less clear overall. I've shot Nikon scopes with BDC and liked their reticiles.
I felt the Vortex Diamondback was "pretty" close to the Leupold VX2 scopes with similar magnification and aperture. Leupold and Zeiss glass were subjectively better.

I am personally looking at the Vortex and Clearidge scopes at the price point and glass quality.

Not many people want to spend the kind of money a Leupold costs for a $200 .22 rifle. Like the thread writer says, he doesn't plan to shoot farther than 100 yards, so up until now I did not chime in my .02 because other posters have given him the good choices IMO. Nothing wrong with the Nikon 4 power for $60 after rebate and I like my simmons 3 to 9 on one of mine. I can shoot dime groups at 75 yards with that. I usually put more expensive glass on more expensive guns and it all really depends on what your purpose for the tool (gun) is.

Mueller APV

I have a Mueller APV on my 10/22 and so far am very impressed for a scope that cost me a total of $115 yet carrys a Lifetime Warranty. I went with the Tactical Solutions 15MOA Picatinny Mounting Rail - well made and allows for lots of mounting adjustment. For Rings, I wanted something that would allow me to easily remove/install the scope without affecting zero so I got a set of these UTG Quick Detach Picatinny Scope Rings. I was skeptical about their low cost but they work well - have taken the scope off a number of times and it has not changed the POA when reinstalled.

I sighted in for zero at 50yds and POA is close to dead on as close as 20yds - can hit clays at 100yds holding over by 8-10 inches. The APV optics are very clear and being able to adjust the AO for Focus at different distances is nice.
