Marlin 925R - New Owner

I just purchased a Marlin 925R. Still have a good 9 days to go.
First rifle!

Since I have some credit left over at Amazon, I want to purchase a Nikon Rimfire Prostaff and scope rings for the scope.

What model scope will best work with this rifle? For the purpose of outdoor range plinking. will 4 x 32 be sufficient for up to 150yards?

Since I haven't received the Marlin, I have no idea if it comes with a scpoe mount. If so, which scope mount it is.
What ring will I need - Dovetail or Weaver style? Will these work?

You will be pleasantly surprised with the 925R, they tend to be very accurate. I have the 925M (.22 Magnum) and it is an excellent shooter. One issue to be aware of is light firing pin strikes. Marlin used a spring that was too light in some of these rifles (mine was) which resulted in some misfires with some ammo. Not saying yours will be, just be aware of it in case it happens. Contact Marlin right away if it does and they will send you a new striker spring, easy to replace.

The rifle does not come with scope bases, at least mine did not. It takes dovetail type rings and the ones you linked to are actually very good, I use them on all my rifles (7). They grip the dovetail very well and have fabric inside the rings to prevent ring marks on the scope.

As far as the 4X32 scope it depends on what size target you will be shooting @150yds. Consider this, with a 4X scope @150yds it will be like looking at your target with the naked eye @ 37.5yds. So what size target can you reliably hit with iron sights at that distance? Clay pidgeon, soda can, water bottle comes to mind. I have hit a 5" diameter bullseye target at 150yds with a 9x scope 4 out of 5 times. I doubt I could do that with a 4X.

If you can afford it and want to go with the Prostaff Rimfire scope I would suggest the 3-9X40MM BDC model. Better scope for extended range and you can always dial it back for shorter ranges if you desire.

Lastly don't be tempted to get a BSA, Tasco, Barska or other cheap scope. You will be sorry in the end. They are low quality scopes made in China while the Prostaffs have Japanese glass and made in the Phillipines in the same factory that makes high end Nikon, Weaver, Clearidge scopes. The Prostaffs have fully multicoated lenses where the BSA, Tasco and Barska scopes have only multicoated lenses and all plastic internals, mushy turrets and less internal elevation/windage adjustments. I have owned BSA and Tasco scopes and sold them all after I looked thru and used a higher quality scope.

No the ones you linked to are for a Weaver/Pictanny style rail which is not on the 925. You need the same rings but the ones that attach to the 3/8" dovetail on the receiver. Here is a link to the right ones:http://www.amazon.com/AccuShot-Premi...4863590&sr=1-4

They are not see thru design and I don't know if they make them in the dovetail type.

I bought a 925R earlier in the year through Big 5. The manager tracked one down to a different store in Southern California and had it shipped up here.
After a brief desire to sell it because I wasnt shooting it, I took it out and shot the hell out of it. Very accurate and the trigger (something you might read that people complain about) actually wasn't bad. Not a target trigger but very managable with a consistant pull weight. I have a 4x32 mounted on it now with weaver medium .22 rings that attach to the groves in the receiver. Holds great, no shift in the mounts or scope. I feel this was plenty for 50 to 75 yards I was shooting at. The scope is a cheap tasco i bought years ago for $20. I was shooting pine cones off trees and making cans off salsa dance hit after hit. I do how ever want to buy a variable scope and I have been researching bases/ring combos and if I can find them I will probably just get the high weaver .22 rings and use the grooves. The Nikon looks like a winner for me in the price range I want to spend.
Other things I like about it is the detachable magazine is also interchangable with the Marlin 795 that i will buy sometime this year.

I have the same rifle, 925R, just took it out for the first time this morning, after zeroing the cheap scope I have on it I was laying shots pretty much one on top of the other at 25 yards. You will love the rifle, definitely grab a few extra magazines, cheapest I found them was from CDNN for $12 each. Flat $10 shipping on orders, so I am ordering them with a few mags for my Bersa and 1911.
