Easy fix!! Simply put an ear plug under the upper/lower rear connector pin (one near the safety).

I stuck a earplug in that spot and it helped, it doesn't move as easily but still has the side to side play. I need to get my hands on a couple other 522's to see if the play is about the same on mine.

I found another thread on this and found mixed opinions.

just checked mine, very slight side to side wobble on the rear pin by the safety but nothing (imho) thats out of spec...ive ran around 2k+ rds on my 522 with out any hiccups what so ever .... except for spent brass hitting the range divider and burning my face lol

I need to get it out to the range, If it shoots good then I guess Ill just have to live with the imperfections. Now I wanna know if I have the "canted gas block" lol, is that something thats easy to see or does it really show at the range when trying to 0 the sights?

It shoots fine, the small play doesn't really move unless you twist the fore grips. I've attached a photo of my quick fix with electrical tape:



Sorry if it's dirty, it'll be cleaned after every 600 rounds. The tape can't be seen when the receiver is closed. It took two layers to stop the play.

havent heard about a canted gas block on a 522, but my rifle was pretty easy to ZERO in

I tried putting a some tape on last night, lower on that piece, didn't notice a difference but I only put 1 layer.

I had just a little side to side play. I found that cutting a small piece of paper and folding it 1-2 times over then inserting it between the receiver and the lower worked extremely well. I imagine adding some electrical tape on the inside of the receiver would do the trick as well. Going to see about coming up with a better solution.

Personally I think it would be awesome to have someone manufacture the lower out of metal to keep it nice and tight. The composite lower is the only downfall of this rifle.

I finally made it out to the range yesterday, it was my first time to a range and first time firing the 522. I decided to setup at 25 yrds, I think any farther out I would need magnified optics.

Right now I just have the Sig iron sights, I was disappointed to find that I needed to adjust the windage on the rear sight all the way to the right and elevation all the way up, even with that I still needed to aim very slight right and cover the target with the tip of the front sight. I forgot my allen wrench to adjust windage up front,next time.

Im wondering if this is a sign of a canted gas block ?? Also is there a small spacer available to raise the rear sight?

I used cci blazer bulk,I didn't keep track but I would say I shot over 100 rounds without any issues. Standing with an elbow on the bench seemed to be the most comfortable position for me, a bipod would be nice. I started off with a 10"? target and then the guy next to me gave me his paper with 2 untouched 6" targets that I used for my last 40 shots.

It is common on SIG rifles. Believe it or not, my 556 is worse but this fixes it and makes it tight 110%.

My 556 had the forearm wobble too. I talked to Colorado Guns and they said that the Sig 550 gas block has a ceramic coating, I forget what it has normally. I replaced mine with the 550 gas block and it tightened that puppy right up.

This thread is making me depressed. I really wish I would have also purchased a 522 when I had the chance.

Samson rail all the way. The 522 fake gas block is indexed to the bbl with a small hex head screw. Many I've seen are not truly squared up when tightened, which means some odd windage adjustments to zero. With a Samson rail, you can remove the stock sig sights and mount any set you want on the rail. I went with Hk 416 diopter sights on mine. Perfection.
The Samson rail has two small adjustment screws that index the barrel nut and allow you to get the rail perfectly square with the upper reciever. It's available from brownells.

I have one and really like it. Mine is a first generation so it did not come with sights. Also mine had the old recoil spring rod and had to be upgraded by SIG to the new type. They sent me one of these for free and it took all of 5 minutes to install. I have a Leapers 4x RGB tactical scope on mine and it is a tack driver. Mine has NEVER failed on any ammo whatsoever.

Can you tell me more about the "old recoil spring rod" upgrade? Is there a serial number range? I too have one that didn't come with sights, but I don't know if that's all it takes to be classified as "old".

What is the issue with the recoil spring rod?

If you're using sights mounted in the GB dovetail, it will be pretty obvious to the eye when try to zero your sights. If yours is canted Sig will fix it for free.

In the original bolt design the rods used an e-clip to keep everything captive. The clips being so small, sometimes had a tendency to fail. If you're still not sure call Sig's CS, if you have one of the older ones they'll send you the redesigned one free of charge.
