    Savage 64fxp $159.99 at Big 5

It's back on sale at Big 5. Was thinking of grabbing it this time around. Any thoughts on the rifle and if it's a good price? I live in the SF Bay so no Turners around.

    Thanks in advance.

I swapped the stock scooe with one i had on a crosman 1377c and now its a pleasure to shoot.

i have one too. Its a great little plinker. The scope is a joke. Just put a Nikon on with the 50 dollar rebate. Mine has trouble shooting Winchesters and the occasional Federal, but other than that it fires well.

        Sorry to thread jack

Would you guys favor this over a Marlin 60? I have a 10/22, but feel like having a stock- plinker.

Yup. I picked this over them all. Marlin 795, Remington 597, Marlin 60, and the 10/22. I like simple and ease of use. Out of the box accuracy is big too. Price had its place too but for my choices of use the 64 out shined them all.

Thanks for the responses everyone. One of the drawbacks I've read about is that the 64 doesn't have a swivel stud for a sling or bipod. Have any of you 64 owners found ways around that? Thanks again.

Just buy the Uncle Mike's swivel kit and insatll it yourself (I think mine might have come with the stud from the factory).

The only problem with that is the stock is extremely flimsy, and moves around when you cinch the sling down. I wish there is an aftermarket stock solution for this rifle!

I've own mine for several years (bought it for less then $100 at Turner's during one of the black friday deal). The rifle is very reliable, but not as accurate as Marlin and definetely nowhere near the after market support of the Ruger (i've own all 3 for several years). Also, as previous post stated, the scope is a joke! This rifle deserves better...

I you think you (or a friend) could handle the woodworking needed to inlet a stock you might consider this: http://www.boydsgunstocks.com/Blaste...-only-s/62.htm

The one Big 5 is selling does. Take s good look or even better ask to hold it. The black stock make it hard to see but mine did come with sling studs front and rear...at least the 64fxp does.

I don't have any wood working experience nor any of my friends (pretty useless I know)...

How diffcult is it to inlet a stock? How much tooling do I need?

                    Thanks!

Personally i think its just fine for the stock furniture. But to each their own.
Here's a pic of my completed 64fxp and ready to take on ground squirrels!

                        Savage 64fxp in jail!

So, I pulled the trigger and stopped by Big 5 to buy the Savage at sale price after a few days of thinking. Thanks to everyone who chimed in my previous thread. Turns out most of the Big 5's around my area were sold out and I bought the last one at the only store left that carried it.

Now, the wait begins. Time to shop for a better scope and extra mags.

Congrats on the purchase! I couldn't be happier with mine. If your going back to big 5 any time soon they have the simmons 3-9x32 .22 magnum scopes for about $50 rings included. Im doing very with well with them on my henry.

Thanks for the suggestion. Was looking at the Simmons and Barska scopes. Got an e-coupon for 25% off so hoping to use that on a scope and extra mags.
