    Bug shootin

So I was out at the range today shooting the April rimfire match here, and found myself being distracted by flies landing on my target getting some sun. It was almost like a dog and "squirrel!!!" Time to see how accurate and fast I can be. I've done this before with limited success with my airgun in the backyard, but with an accurate .22 it's good fun and downright challenging. Anyone else found this to be an entertaining way to pass an afternoon? Or found themselves getting off-track from what you originally went to the range to do?

Ha the last time I shot at bugs was with my airgun in my backyard too. I use to shoot at old cans of soda that would attract wasps. It was almost like a hostage target and I tried to get the wasps without hitting the can.
If you want more of a challenge try bumble bees or japanese beetles when they are hovering. Watch out, some of those beetles took a couple of shots to take down; talk about stopping power, some of those bugs are tough.

Never tried it with a .22 though, but it sounds like a good alternative to poison

We used to cockroach hunt in Long Beach, they would scurry across the concrete paths at our apartment complex at night and occasionally fall victim to pellet gun fire.

I stun gun a cockroach before. I saw one craw out of the sewer pot in the street in the city of cerritos and took hem out.

Shot a few moths with my mini30 back in the day...sure feels good to see them explode. FYI 7.62x39 was a bit overkill for the moths.

                    Ya think?

Back when I was a teenager, I would pop flies off the side of an outbuilding with a pellet pistol.

I used to shoot flies off the garden hose at my folks house, until I slipped once and put a bb into the garden hose. :/

When my friend and I take our 10/22s to Los Altos Rod and gun, we set up on the 40yd tin can range. Milk jugs, soda cans and Snapple bottles. Sometimes we attract bugs because of some sugary remnants. Have shot many a bee or moth from that range. On the Snapple and milk jugs, we fill them up, cap them, then start by shooting off the caps and working our way down. A 10/22 with a good scope is a very accurate rifle.
