Cost no object - 22 LR Semi-auto Rifle

Hi guys, I am looking to buy a 22 LR rile, but it is going to be a special one... the best one... "my precious". :-) When people ask for a recommendation on "the best whatever", they can mean many things. In my case I mean
    • highest quality materials and workmanship
    • optimal design, precision manufacturing
    • unsurpassed accuracy and reliability
    • aesthetic beauty

My focus is on marksmanship: medium and long range high-accuracy shooting for fun and competition, but the rifle must be a perfectly capable "working rifle" for pest control or whatever else needs holes in it. Although I claim that cost is not an issue, I should mention that I am NOT looking for jewel encrusted, gold plated, pearl handled status piece, this quest is for Quality. Advice or wish lists much appreciated.

Volquartsen makes some really nice high-end .22LR rifles.
Depending on the configuration, they range from $1200-4000.
Depending on which model, accuracy is usually at 0.5" groups at 50 yards.

The 10/22 is the semi auto rifle on the market with the most aftermarket support. A factory Ruger receiver will never be the quality of function or appearance of a high priced bolt gun of very good accuracy. The Ruger can be modified to match your personal favorite shooting style, imparting a good deal of accuracy and fun. Each part has many options and they run from mild to wild.
The problem is that every once in a while a Marlin or a Savage will produce one cheap stock rifle that will shoot, for some shooter, just as good a group on a given day as your wonder rifle. Just the way it is. Your worst day their best day they got the ammo down for their rifle and such throw in a little wind and there you go.
Look at stocks and sporter barrels for a range/hunting/target rifle. A good trigger kit your favorite optic and you are on your way to ruin.

Im going to throw out there the Remington 541-T. But I'm one who can't justify spending thousands on just a rimfire rifle unless it has some magical qualities. I do however prefer a well made rifle, and this fits that category. Classic lines, mag fed, and bolt action. With a good quality scope, this would be a pass-it-down through the generations rifle. Good luck finding one..... I'm sure that there are others that will disagree, but I've always liked this model. Anschutz is another fine choice with unlimited spending potential. One thing that applies to any model you purchase is the need to test multiple types/brands of ammo. Rimfires are generally picky, with the same model rifle rarely liking the same ammo.

And why am I a dater of high profile chicks??? And if I am, why is everyone else also?? There's only so many high profile chicks to go around. Pretty soon the cost of high profile chicks is going to be like ammo. I'm going to have to start getting my HPC's at gun shows to get a deal I guess.

If you want a cost no object store bought semiauto 22 then Volquartsen is a nice choice and but a Kidd Supergrade with all of the optional bells and whistles (rear tang, 2-stage trigger, speed mag release, nice stock) is what I would buy. To get any more accurate than that you'll need to go with a bolt action Anschutz and the accuracy difference won't be much.
