    Thumbhole Stocks for .22? Pros/Cons?

Never having fondled one, I'm curious as to whether there are any practical (not tactical) advantages.

    Thanks in advance!

Better accuracy and trigger control, lighter weight, and looks better!

I have several and for me the main reasons are comfort and looks but many designs are optimized for a particular style of shooting. Some are optimized for prone, some for benchrest, some for standing, and some are just general purpose sporters. Just keep in mind that you may have some fitting or even bedding to do to get to the rifle's full potential. This will be my next project, I already have the stock and I'm just saving up for the other bits. Over the years I've found Shooters Discount to be an exceptional source.

I have a couple of thumbhole stocks on different rifles.
        I like them.
Seems to be more comfortable to shoot and seems to give me a better grip.
I dont know how tactical it is, that doesnt seem to be a big issue for me.

I switched my 17 HMR to a thumbhole and seems I get better control then the factory stock, and it looks great. I have a Boyds Evolution on a 10/22 with a 16" lightweight bull barrel. I guess that would be considered a thumbhole. Love the way the stock feels, and the gun is very light and well balanced, really fun to shoot.

I put a Boyd's thumb-hole stock on my Marlin 60 and it's a lot more comfortable than the original stock. Control seems better, too, but that could also be due in-part to the DIP trigger I also installed.

Thanks, guys; didn't want to buy one just for the look (which I love)

Put a Boyd's on my marlin 795. Love the look and feel, plus it was enjoyable doing some light woodworking and finishing.

My Marlin 60, Savage Mark II and Savage 93r17 all wear thumbhole stocks. I find them very comfortable to shoot.

OP, just a thought, Go to one of the bigger gun stores or if you're near a Bass Pro, ask them if you can see one of the 22s with a thumbhole stock and then one without. I know the Bass Pro by me has some of each and so does Turners I believe. If the don't have it in a 22 they might in a 17. See and feel the difference. I think you'll see the thumbhole lets you grip the gun more comfortabily. It will give you a chance to see the difference with out shelling out cash.
