    XT-22TR bolt action HELP

I have a XT-22tr Bolt action (tube fed) that is having failure to eject issues.
After you fire a round and pull the bolt back the spent round failes to eject or come out of the chamber. I usually have to pry the shell out of the tube. Out of 10 rounds i would say this happens 3-4 times.

Is there any way to correct this on my own, I've sent it back to Marlin once for the same issue and all the paperwork say is they used some emry cloth or something and fired some rounds with no issues. But i still have issues and don't want to send it back as it took 3 weeks for nothing.

The gun is new (last 6 mo) and has maybe 150 rounds through it. It's becoming annoying to shoot.

First try a different brand of ammo as it could be a rim thickness issue on your ammo, although this should not be happening either. Just a starting point. I had a similiar problem with Winchester Bulk ammo in a Savage rifle and no longer use that ammo in that rifle.

It may also be an extractor issue. Ensure that the two areas on the side of the barrel where the extractors are inserted are clean and no burrs. Inspect the extractors to make sure they are not bent and move freely.

Next insert a fired case into the extractors with the bolt half way open, then open the bolt fully to see if the case is ejected. Do this several times to elimnate the ejector as a problem.

Last, do the fired cases appear to be expanded beyond their normal size? This could indicate a probem with the chamber being too large allowing the case to expand and cause extraction problems.

Also don't let Marlin off the hook if this problem continues. They have had some quality control issues since Remington bought the company. Take pictures of the problems, write letters to the Corporate Office, raise cain about it until they fix the problem. THEY OWE YOU A WORKING FIREARM, THAT'S WHAT YOU PAID FOR.

Try some Federal Bulk or even better get a box of CCI Mini-Mags or Federal Lightning all available from Walmart (most of them). Another good ammo at WM is the Federal Automatch.

That Winchester is the same ammo that I had problems with although it shot pretty good in a couple of other bolt action rifles. I also had problems with it in a Marlin 60, it refused to fire it but would shoot anything else that I loaded into it.

            Hi jchappies,
Just a thought. Have you noticed the problenlm if you pulled the bolt back at different speeds? I had an older bolt .22 that would do what your describing if i pulled the bolt back quickly. But if i did a normal cycling of the bolt it would be just fine. Just thought id throw it out there

Doesnt matter what speed i pull it back it still doesn't come out.
Thats what i thought too so i would pull the next round out then slowly close the bolt then open slowly to see if the magnet would pick it up and that only seems to work 1/4 of the time. Most of the time i have to use a pick to get it out.

Nuts. I would try the chanber size next if you want to chase this for your satisfaction. Getting a micrometer in there would be tuff but may be helpful. As stated above dont let Marlin off the hook. Keep after them!

i have an xt22 that is magazine fed. i have had the same problem when using the Winchester bulk ammunition (the box of 555 with super x stamped on the bottom). when i use cci or federal, no problems! i didn't want to waste the ammo i have however so i still shoot it, the way i cut down on FTE's with that ammo was by gently pushing the the bolt forward as i open it and this lets the extractor grab the case with a better grip. happy shooting!

                    Go with the CCI Blazer.

I had a Marlin 795 that had all kinds of issues with the Winchester 555 but none or whatsoever with CCI Blazer.

My friend the casings are brass and would never be attracted by a magnet, which isn't there anyway. The casings are extracted by a purely mechanical connection between the extractors and the rim of the casing. Just thought you ought to know.

Its beginning to look like a Winchester ammo problem. For your sake I hope so as sending the rifle back and forth is surely a pain. I would be furious but then I'm 65 and not very tolerant of new stuff that doesn't work. Best of luck.

                        WOW!!
What a difference new ammo makes.

Staying away from that Winchester crap, it was nothing but problems

Went through about 500 rounds of CCI 40gr 1200fps and did not have one FTE or any other problem
