    Recommended .22 bolt action

Would like recommendations for a. 22 bolt action for plinking, squirrels & rabbits. What would you recommend that's good to go out of the box?

One of my personal favorites is the Savage Mark II series. The Mark II TR is on top of my wish list right now

Just out of curiosity, are the bolt action savages more accurate than a Ruger 10/22 out the box? Or even a Marlin 795?

How do the bolt actions measure up against a 10/22 or 795?

        Advantages? Disadvantages?

Yes. Bolt actions will always be more accurate due to the fact there are less moving parts during the loading, firing, ejecting spent shells, etc. modes.

Savage, Marlin, Mossberg, CZ if your wallet is up to it. Roam around a little and handle a few. I've got a Savage MKII BV on order. Keep the Hm2 in mind as well as .22 Magnum for small game. Both are devastating but a bit more costly to shoot.

But if you want to shoot Squirrels and Rabbits, I would go with a ruger 10/22.

Gives you better follow up shots..

Savage MKII or CZ452/453/455. Pick the specific variant based on shooting style as in iron sights vs scoped. A rifle optimized for iron sights will have the stock shaped to get the eye down low, while scope optimized designs will have a high comb to get the eye higher so that it's even with a scope. Savage's Mark II "F" series are designed to use with iron sights while the BTVS is designed for use with a scope. CZ's Lux versions are designed to work best with iron sights, while their American and Varmint models are designed to be used with a scope.

On average an out of the box Savage Mark II or CZ will shoot rings around an out of the box 10/22. It's not always the case because both Savage and CZ are capable of the occasional lemon and once in a great while all of the stars will be aligned for a Ruger. But generally speaking you'll have to put $200-500 into 10/22 to get it to shoot as well or better than the CZ. It can be done though.

+2 on the Savage Mark II's.......I say that because I have two myself. TR and an FV-SR, both are shooting machines and my skills are not the best.
