Good scope for a .22

Been using iron sights for the marlin 795 the past month. I figure I should invest in a scope. Any recommendations on something decent for less than 100 bucks?

I use a Simmons 4-12x with the UTG one-piece scope mount.

The mounts on the 795 sucks and anything weak will just walk right off.

On my 795, I have a 3-9X40 Tasco from Wal-Mart mounted in the UTG one piece mount. It does the job. The group when sighting-in was tight and I was hitting the softball sized targets on the reactive range at 50 yards unsupported while moving quickly from one target to the next.

For $40, it works IMO. My $50 Simmons 3-9x32 does the same thing on my XT-22, as well as the $30 Bushnell 4x32 on my 10/22.

I second that. I have the 8-32X50MM AO and its a very good scope but too large for a 795. The 40MM AO would be a good one.

For a more compact scope I would recommend a Simmons 22MAG 3-9X32MM AO. I have one, nice light scope, clear as a bell.

I agree on the sweet 22 scopes. For the price they are hard to beat. For my everyday scope i ofter rely on my simmons 3-9x32. Cheap durable and clear enough for 50-75 yard shots.

I second that. I have the 8-32X50MM AO and its a very good scope but too large for a 795. The 40MM AO would be a good one.

The Vortex 6X40 is parallax adjusted to 100yds. Won't work well for ranges less than 50yds. Not an adjustable objective scope. Not saying it isn't a good scope but for rimfire an adjustable objective down to at least 25yds or less is best.

Do yourself a big favor and buy a better scope. I highly recommend spending $$130 shipped for a Weaver RV7 2.5-7x28 Rimfire or a $120 shipped for a Sightron S1 3-9x32RF. Both are parallax free at 50yds and the quality of the glass and mechanical quality are head and shoulders better then sub $100 scopes. Here is where they sit in the scope quality pecking order.

This is what I put on my 795.
It's inexpensive and seems to work well.
At least for what I use it for.

Sweet .22's. I have one on my 795 and one on my 925 and they turn the guns into 200 yard dirt clod busters ( and anything else of the same size). You really need to calibrate the bullet drop turret to your particular load. I set it to 180 for a 200 yard shot with the Federal 550 pack and it works great. Mount it with see through rings so you can shoot with the iron sights for a quick short shot. Good luck.
