Selling my 15-22, am I crazy?

Been mulling around the idea and posted it last night in the FS section. Since getting my AR-15 its just not the same, I don't really enjoy shooting it anymore. I know people say its a great training rifle, but as much as I actually shoot and as often as I go to the range I can afford to shoot my .223 no problem. I figure I should get something a bit different from what I already have. Was considering getting the ISSC MK22(scar clone) or the Sig 522, or possibly skipping the evil black rifle thing with the 22 and getting a Marlin 795 or 60 or even a Ruger 10/22. Am I crazy? Should I keep the 15-22? Its not like I'm giving up on 22s, I just want something that's a little different from what I own in centerfire calibers, since I don't like the 22lr training rifle idea, other than the trigger time, I don't feel the need to train on the same platform. I dunno, I guess I'm just on the fence about it and really trying to decide whether or not I should keep it or replace it with something else.

Im in the same dilema. Have been thinking of buying a 15-22, but i already have an AR-15. So the scar in .22 was a thought, but still the 15-22 does not sound like a bad idea.

I was in the same boat. Sold my 15-22 for an AK. I miss mine though.

As a fellow 15-22 brethren, I'd be sad to see you sell the thing. I plan on building an AR-15 at some point but don't plan on selling the M&P, ever! Probably because it was my first gun and my only .22 right now. I took it to the desert the other day and forgot all of my freakin' magazines to it but it was still the most fun I had out of my 3 that I took, plinking at steel one shot at a time I think the most important thing is you have some sort of .22 in your safe, whether it be the 15-22 or something else. If you kept it, it would be a bit convenient as you don't have to change out the bolt and magazine in your AR(not that it's tough at all) and you don't have to disengage/take out the bullet button each time, etc.

Do you need the cash? If not, I wouldn't sell it. My own personal philosophy is if I have to sell an old gun to buy a new gun then I really can't afford the new gun. My 2 cents...

The Second Amendment is a doomsday provision, one designed for those exceptionally rare circumstances where all other rights have failed - where the government refuses to stand for reelection and silences those who protest; where courts have lost the courage to oppose, or can find no one to enforce their decrees. However improbable these contingencies may seem today, facing them unprepared is a mistake a free people get to make only once.

Since you already own it keep it, enjoy it, but I personally enjoy my 10/22 a bunch. I dont think I can see myself buying/buying a .22 AR clone or even conversion kit.

If you do sell it, I recommend a 10/22 if you want to keep it cheap.

I bought my 15-22 AFTER my AR purchase. I really like the 15-22 and I feel I have just as much fun, if not more, than when I'm shooting the AR. If you already own it, keep it. Even if you don't use it as much, it's cool to bring along to ease friends into shooting AR style rifles.

I have regretted selling almost every gun tht I have sold in the past. The 15-22 is a great little rifle. Took my 8 year old grandson to Bee Canyon today and while he blasted away with his Crickett, I shot my 15-22 for a while. He shot the 15-22 also, but prefers his Crickett. He hits what he is aiming at about 95% of the time.

                  It was a great afternoon!

I say keep it, unless you are really strapped for cash. It is always fun to have extras or a friend when you go out for the day. Good gun for new shooters too.

I 100% agree with the fact that if you need to finance the new gun by selling the old one you probably can't afford the new one. I don't need money, but I could use the space, since my safe/cabinet is relatively small, and the AR style rifles take up a lot more space than a typical rifle would take up, so I would really be selling/trading it for the room it would free up, since between that, my AR and my GFs Mossberg Tac 22 there is very little space left in it(supposed to be a 6 gun cabinet) If I didn't have the 15-22 I could fit a 10/22 and the bolt action 308 I've been thinking about getting. I'm really leaning toward getting a typical plain-jane autoloader vs a tacticool rifle. I want to buy a bigger safe/cabinet, and I will, but since I am renting an 2nd floor apartment I really don't want the hassle of getting something bigger up here and moving it in a few months anyway. When I move later this year I will be in either a bottom floor or preferably somewhere with an attached garage and will have space for a full size safe, but for now I won't leave my place without everything locked up, so I am taking that into consideration for now. So, realistically I need to make the space if I want something new for now, although after I move and can get a larger secure storage arrangement for my firearms I would only sell something that I truly didn't enjoy shooting/had no use for.

If I want to train for zombies I bring the 15. If I want to plink all day with friends and/or family or train someone new to AR's, or its a high wind day @ Angeles range and I dont want to waste my day or expensive ammo, or just because I bring the 15-22.

One thing I like about the 15-22 is that I its a TON cheaper to outfit since I dont care that Im not putting military grade hardware on it. used, beat up, ugly, chi-com stuff - dont care, its my plinking 22 that is actually pretty damn accurate with bulk ammo to 100y.

Sounds like a great day to test out some ballistic data on some long range shots

You bought it because you liked it, right? Now that you bought a .223 you don't like it as much. We all own guns that we like better than others. Keep it.....just my .02

Personally it sounds like to me that you don't need to sell your 15-22 but it does sound like you need to buy a bigger safe and sell the smaller one that you have now. Just my 2 cents. Bite the bullet and buy the biggest safe that you can. Also not sure if you have any kids but if not save it and when it comes time for you to teach them about shooting the .22 is the way to go... Good luck
